BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn broke his right index finger in Monday night's win over Buffalo but will try to play Sunday against the Houston Texans.

The team initially thought Quinn only bruised his hand after banging it on the helmet of a Bills player, but X-rays taken after practice Wednesday revealed a fracture on the tip of his finger. A specialist at the Cleveland Clinic cleared Quinn to play.

Making his second career start, Quinn stayed in against Buffalo and finished 14 of 36 for 185 yards.

Browns coach Romeo Crennel said Quinn, who recently took over the starting job from Derek Anderson, was able to grip the ball during practice.

The second-year QB will wear a splint when he is not on the field.
My question is, how can Brady Quinn play with a broken index finger on his throwing hand, but Tony Romo can't play with a broken pinky for 4 weeks?!

If worse comes to worse, at least the Browns have Anderson.

The Browns and Steelers both have capable QB's to turn to if something goes wrong, unlike Dallas.

Byron Leftwich and Derek Anderson are younger, former Pro Bowl-QB's, and ca actually throw a deep pass, unlike old geezer Brad Johnson.

get on youtube and watch Quinn in his first couple years at ND. He spent more time on his back than.....well nevermind that.

I know a lot of people didn't like Quinn but when you consider who he was surrounded by his accomplishments and toughness are astounding.

I agree John. That's part of the reason why I think his knickname, The Mighty Quinn is appropriate. Romo on the other hand, pulease. A pinky?

This reminds me of when former Chiefs QB Steve DeBerg broke his thumb and still led the Chiefs to the playoffs in 1990.

(Yes, the Chiefs used to be GOOD, believe it or not)

:mad:According to the news this morning, Brady is out for the rest of the season with the finger. Surgery may be required, but that is yet to be decided. No reason at all to watch the STINKING Browns now til next year when hopefully they will have a new and REAL NFL head coach.

I can only see 1 on the team next year. With Romeo on the hot seat, the new coach will have to make that decision.

Sounds like when the Chargers kept Rivers and let go of Brees, then the Saints picked him up, and hired a new coach.

Maybe Cleveland hires a new coach and Brady Quinn tears up the league in 2009 ala Brees?
