The courtesy equipments credits are over.. now what?

On my latest bill shows:

Receiver Credit 6 of 6 -10.00
Loyalty Credit 6 of 6 -6.00

That means my next will increase by $16. With 4 HD-DVR in my house, I'm spending $17 x 3 = $42 on monthly equipments fee, even though I've PURCHASED all of them myself!

On the latest Directv's comparative ads, they makes an obvious mention that Directv only charge $5 for extra receiver while Dish charges up to $17.

It's been 6 months since the the outrageous equipment fee increase, what has DISH done to make high end customers like myself feel more 'loyal'?

Do you watch TV on all of them regularly?

It's the DVRs that are killing you. If you came down to one or two DVRs you'd save a bunch of money.

Mine hasn't run out yet, but when it does I will be dropping out of DISH everything and canceling the premiums and the superstations.

Yes.. have HDTV in each of the rooms in the house. The Tivo ability.. eh I mean 'DVR" ability" is essential.

However, NONE of the DVR's are hooked up to a 2nd TVs. We do not have any non-HD TV's in the house so the feature is useless.

Since the equipments were purchased prior to the availability of the 612's, I'm forced to face the early adopter penalty of purchasing the 622/722's

I feel Dish should put out a software upgrade to make the 2nd-TV feature an optional ad-on so people who don't need/use the feature on their 622/722's should not be forced to pay the $17 fee.

If you need that many TVs and/or DVRs then Dish is not a good option for you, unless don't mind paying through the nose. D* will charge $5 per ($15 total for 3) and give you DVRs in every room. If I was in your position, I would call Dish, tell them that the $27 difference is a dealbreaker and see if they match. If they don't, I would cancel. The current equipment charges for Dish are outrageous, and whatever programming cost difference exists, it is not enough to offset the equipment cost difference.

**EDIT** I also forgot that you could get the MRV option with D* and really make having 4 DVRs useful. When comparing the HR24 with MRV to the 622/722, you are getting significantly more value with the HR24 in my opinion.

my neighbor chose direct because he wanted two dvrs and the local comcast company is now advertising a cut in dvr prices to 8.00 per month

I see it as simply pay the fee for DISH products or leave when your commitment is completed DISH has the right to change their terms and you have the right to speak with your wallet.

Agreed. However, and please correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the selling point of the dual tuner receiver the lower cost? After the first receiver if you needed two more rooms of tv then you only were paying for one receiver not 2? It seems to me that with the exception of the duo DVR (watch recordings on TV1 or TV 2) it now really makes no difference if you have a single tuner receiver in every room that has a TV vs half the number of receivers and two tuners per box.

I was providing a quote for the cost to have an hd dvr in each room. If the OP needs more tuners, then he can opt for a more expensive solution.

I'm not here to argue that Dish will be cheaper than Direct in this scenario, just trying to correct some of the wild comparison numbers thrown out earlier in the thread.

It would be fairly expensive. Then again, I don't think Direct provides four boxes for free either. The OP needs to figure out which would work best for him (with up front costs being one factor).

Either way, the OP will likely cover the cost of whatever he has to purchase by selling his 622/722s.

Question

DO you need HD in all four locations with the ability to watch seperate programing at the same time or just a HD feed to each HD TV that you may never watch at the same time? I have a 722K feed to three HD TV's and it works since I have very little (almost 0) need to watch all three sets at the same time. WHen I do need to then one is watching in SD. I have a HDMI splitter that splits one input to four outputs and am using there of them. WOrks great. Got it from Monoprice for around $90. If your need is as mine the this is an option woth looking at. By the way, one HD set is feed with a 75 ft HDMI cable, one with a 50 ft and the other a six foot.

I must not be in an all MPEG4 market then because that's the offer I get after entering my zip code. Any ideas how to find out the all MPEG4 markets?
