The Coolsat has arrived!

My first impression was - 'Wow that's a tiny box'.

I connected it to the front inputs on my TV, Connected the Voom dish to it, and fired off a blind scan.

I'm watching the Dish Network International promo channel right now :).

The level is staying steady at 97 and the quality is bouncing all over the place.I remember I was to ignore one or the other. I noticed that changing the LNB frequency GREATLY affects the quality reading. It defaulted to single and 11.250 for a frequency. It works so far with the Voom dish - lol.

I need to find the 'auto delete scrambled' feature!

I'm gonna head out back and see if I can't get IA5 to come in :).

I received my Coolsat 4000 Pro receiver today as well. I have only one word to say about it.....WOW. I also received my SG2100 H-H mount. Now I need to dig a hole and get a pole cemented in. This might be my weekend project.

Luckily I was playing with the old D* reciever to peak the p* on 101 and so when I brought everything out to nail IA-5... I checked and sure enough there is some Ku at 101 too... AMC4 :). It's blindscanning right now and so far I'm VERY impressed.

I got my SG2100 at well... I'm saving that for when I either get a 'normal' dish or get around to adapting the P*'s mount to the smaller pole on the SG2100.

Well - I just learned the value of the L.O. frequency :).

I'm peaked on IA-5 and scanning right now!

Iceberg / Coolsat Owners - How does the reciever know what sat it's on?

I was having great success... I started with AMC 4. I then went after IA-5 which I got dialed in without issue. The next target was G10R. Piece of cake (ghetto moving).

I decided this was going WAY too easy so I decided to try and get Anik F2. My reciever doesn't have an Anik F2 entry but it did have Anik E2R which was listed at the same 111.1 position. SatFinder also shows Anik E2R and Lyngsat only shows AnikF2. I dialed in Anik E2R on the reciever and peaked the dish. I then did a blindscan which produced nothing from what shows on Anik F2 on Lyngsat but I did get a wide selection of programs from the sats at 110.

I decided to challenge myself further and go way West. After a little poking around Lyngsat I decided there wasn't much point in gunning for 148. Nothing Ku FTA until Galaxy 13 at 127W. My reciever doesn't have a pre-set for G13 so I filled out the information on one of the blank ones. I got all of the data input but I dont' get an active signal meter. What did I miss?

It seems that the Sat names are only there for Disec / USALS purposes... which I guess makes sense.

I reset the Dish to G10R and am watching THETUBE in the mean time :). I noticed my sound is out of sync with the video on The tube.. I check some other channels.

n/m on the audio sync problem - by the next song it was fine. wierd.

This is my test rig that I had setup in the back yard tonight :)

You're so lucky... imagine a similar setup, but on a roof, using a Twinhan PCI sat card ;)

I used my videocard's composite output to feed into a vcr, used the cable output to run coax onto the roof, then extention cords to run a small tv up there. That gave me the signal/quality level (ProgDVB) on the roof, though changing transponders or settings was a real pain- climb down off the roof, go inside, swap the composite cable from the VCR to the living room TV, drag the ProgDVB window back over to my second monitor, make the adjustments, and reverse the afforementioned proccess :p

Small wonder why I get slightly irritated when after several days of this, it turns out my lnb is defective

Hehe - I can picture it.

I just ran about 150' of RG6 around the perimetier of my wall, across a narrow section of the yard, across the patio cover and into an upstairs window.

Now I'm watching the coolsat via my PC (HDTV Wonder). Once I get the motor installed and whatnot I'm going to have to pick up a PCI DVB card so I can watch HD stuff. I'll then move the Coolsat downstairs to the 'main' TV.

It's funny how spoiled I am with this reciever. I still don't know how to manually tune in a channel if I didn't use the blind scan to find the channel 1st.

Unless you're using a motor, it doesn't know which satellite you're on unless you select it. Everything on F2 (111.1) is DCII, which is a different encryption system

you have to put in the LO frequency, which you probably did. But go under "Manul scan" and add a TP. Needs to do that to get a signal :)

I would check the PIDS.....clear out the channel and go under PID scan and put the pids in manually, but make the 3rd one (PPID) the same as video. That will clear up the issue

to manually add a TP
-manual scan
-hit the button to "add TP"...i think its the yellow one
-type in the frequency, polarity, etc
-hit OK and it will scan that TP only :)

Enjoy the Coolsat....if there are toher questions, some of the answers are in the review I did of the Coolsat :)

Also, after you guys get it up an running, please post your thoughts in that review post too :)

Have any one scan a C Band Satellite? How many time the Coolsat need for one Satellite. The Satwork ST3688 need for the NSS 806 17"from scan to watch the channel (it's a wide range sat), but the Liftime Ultra 2005 need 33" and skip more TP then the ST3688, on the Pas 1R C Band the ST3688 need 12" and the Ultra need 24" and also the Satwork found more TP.

Saludos
Wilbert

I think the time varies by the sat. IA-5 took FOREVER to scan in. I did a detail scan and I don't think it found any more than the the 'fast' scan did.

The channels I was hunting down on IA-5 are now scrambled :(. I'll have to figure out how to become usefull (send updates) over at Lyngsat.

I'll do that. One thing that impresses me is everything I've read basicly said 'don't be suprised if you don't see TV the first day you start setting this up'.

I was blind scanning within 10 mins of opening the box! I know I had my settings wrong for the circular LNB of my Voom Dish but it still worked well enough to let me watch the international promo over at 61.5.

I initally had the L.O. frequency setting wrong on my LNB (which would have made dish pointing improssible) but since my dish was already parked on 101 I was able to scan AMC 4 and watch my first 'real' FTA channels.

Once I figured out the L.O. frequency setting for my LNB I was able to make good use of the 'quality' meter and started satellite hopping.

One other thing.... do you really need a circular LNB to watch the stuff in the clear on the e* birds? I was able to pick up GolTV at 110 when I was gunning for Anik F2.

same here....10 minutes after hooking it up I had channels on G10 :)

some LNB's can hit it...mine can't so I need a DBS LNB

I'm thinking that might be a blessing. While it is nice that I potentially won't have to put up another LNB to catch the NASA channel, I also pick up about 200 channels I can't watch when I blind scan :).

Do you still see the channels show up when you blind scan with your Ku LNB?

not the Dish ones

I have a KU Band and a DBS LNBF’s next to each other combined with a switch. So when I scan 91 (galaxy 11), I usually have no issues…I think it has to do with my LNB. When I scan G11 on the Pansat, I only get 2 DBS frequencies (TP 1 & 2) and none register as channels

Just when I thought I had this DiSEqC thing figured...

Ok - I noticed I can set DiSEqC 1 or 1.1 when using the DiSEqC switch. I'm guessing that the 1.1 is for when you cascade DiSEqC switches?

Anyways - I cheated and got the little 'CoolSat' DiSEqC switch to work. I went down to Lowes and got 3 of the F male to F-fem slip-fit connector adaptors and used these to make the switch usable until my DMSi one shows up.

I was watching the Tube on G10R, turned it off, hooked everything up out at the dish, came back in and I was actually suprised that the Tube came right up. For good measure I went in and set the Ku Sats to (1) and the sats I wanted to hit by the circular LNB to (4).

Everything works great, except for 110 and 119. Both of these give me 'Bad or No Signal' when trying to tune a channel in spite of showing me 73% Level/80% Quality & 77% Level/81% Quality respectively from the 'Motorized Settings' menu.

All of the sats I have the D* LNB pointed to use DiSEqC 1.2 to position the DISH. The Ku Sats are using USALS.

Is there something I'm over looking?

The sats at 61.5 / 82W / 91W / 148W all fire right up.

I know the slip fit connectors are an installer's nightmare but I really wanted to play with it until the new switch gets here :).

Could it just be that the 'CoolSat' DiSEqC switch is just a PoS? Are the slip fit f-connectors probably the culprit?

Thanks All

Sorry about the new thread, I see it got tucked under this one - cool.

Does anyone have a site that beaks down DiSEqC 1/1.1? 1.2 is the motor control.
