Whether you love or hate the BCS, or are for or against a playoff system, the two most deserving teams are in the BCS National Championship.
Ohio State is the only champion of a BCS conference with only one loss, and that one loss is to a team headed for the Rose Bowl. Easy choice as number 1.
LSU are the champions of the toughest conference in college football. It took six overtimes for them to have two losses to two teams going bowling. Combined record of teams they lost to: 15-9. Easy choice as number 2.
Let's look at the other teams' arguments:
Virginia Tech - You lost by six touchdowns to the team mentioned above. Next!
Oklahoma - Probably playing better than any team in the country right now and lost two road games, one without a starting qb. Combined record of teams they lost to: 14-10. The loss to Colorado and the way the defense played against Texas Tech plays heavily in them not being in the NC.
Georgia - Got spanked 35-14 by a team LSU just beat in the SEC Championship and lost to a 6-6 South Carolina team that isn't going bowling. It doesn't matter what you were ranked last week, you don't deserve to be in.
Missouri - Missouri should be in the Orange Bowl and got royally screwed, but they don't belong in the NC. They tried to beat the team currently ranked #4 twice, and didn't come close either time.
USC - Playing just as good as OU right now, but next time, make sure you beat the team that you are favored to beat by 41 points.
And does anyone remember what things were like before the BCS with the conference tie-ins. Try figuring out the national champion if the bowls looked like this:
Rose - USC vs Ohio State
Sugar - LSU vs Kansas
Fiesta - Oklahoma vs Georgia
Orange - Virginia Tech vs West Virginia
Yes, the BCS is a joke. But like it or not, when only two teams can play for it, the right two teams are in this year.
