...although there have been no confirmed reports, for all we know it could be happening at this very moment. I'll let you know if anyone can confirm if Tiger Woods at Pimlico this afternoon, and whether he has been seen using drugs and prostitutes. Regardless, it's time to focus on the Preakness States...

The "Run for the Black-Eyed Susans" is held on the third Saturday in May and is only trumped by the Kentucky Derby in attendance for North American stakes races. The 137th Preakness Stakes is scheduled to take place on May 19, 2012 at Pimlico in Baltimore, Maryland. Preakness Stakes Post Time: 6:18pm EDT.
With that said, I am again perplexed as to why there has been no discussion of this race, which has been held since 1873. And nothing posted on golf nor boxing nor MMA, etc. Yet, lots of boring drivel about drafts, recruiting and fantasy leagues. I don't get it.

It's I'll Have Another by a nose to win the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown. What an exciting finish to overtake Bodemeister who had led the race from start to finish.

I watch horse racing, and would watch more if my local simulcast venue were not run by total idiots (seriously, I could round up 5 random guys from the parking lot of K-Mart and they would do a better job). However, I understand what you are saying. A bunch of people show up for the Triple Crown races (and then the Belmont only if its a shot at a Triple Crown) and maybe the Breader's Cup in November. They bet on names (either cute horse name or jockeys or trainers they have heard of) or based on what the TV people tell them, and walk away.

PTI goes into this from time to time. At the advent of television, horse racing and boxing were the #2 and #3 sports after baseball. Today neither would be in the top 30. Its an object lesson for today's currently popular sports. Although a lot of it goes to the fact that, outside of Nevada, it was the only place you could legally bet on anything.

I do. My father is still a trainer in a small track in upstate NY.

we've got a race track about 4 miles from my house (Canterbury Park) and I try to get there a few times a year. Its a nice way to spend a Thursday or Friday night....Weekends are day races so they usually are busier

Love it. Grew up going to the racetracks in Louisiana. My best friends Dad trained quarter horses. Got hooked on the Triple Crown races in 1973...Big Red. Excited to see a chance for a TC winner this year, long shot or not.

We still have one of the nicest tracks in the east in Gulfstream Park. At one point, southeast Florida was the only area that can boast to have 4 race tracks within 25 miles of each other: Hialeah Race Track, Tropical Park, Calder Race Track and Gulfstream Park. All full thoroughbred racing.

My grandfather was a "huge" horse fan. We used to go to Northville Downs (Detroit area) and watch the trotters several times each year. Of course, he was born in 1906 so horses were still a major mode of transportation into his early adulthood. He didn't gamble so that left him plenty of money for ice cream sodas and $$$ to spend on me. Perhaps that's why have a such a soft spot for the sport.

I usually watch the Florida Derby, Gulfstream Park Handicap and Santa Anita Handicap. I like to see most of the pre Triple Crown races or any race that might be from down here.
