Text message won't stay deleted

I finally convinced my husband to move up to a smart phone. I gave him my old one just in case he didn't like the change. Got everything going for him and so far so good...except for this one text message that just won't die. We have deleted it several times and I went in and cleared the cache for the messaging app, but, next thing you know, it shows back up as being a new text message, just like he just received it. The phone is a HTC Vivid, AT&T, if that matters. Any suggestions?

Have you tried to clear the data as well?

Yes, cleared data and cache. I have never seen this before. Just don't get it...
