Well guys,
I am getting killed with TI right now. On all c-band sats.
Far western sats are the worst. You can even seed bursts of sparklies and snow on c-band analog channels.

KU band is perfect on my 7.5' SAMI mesh dish.

It started gradually with small blips timed about 60 seconds apart.

Got severe to the point I could see my receiver go from 90% signal quality on AMC-8 to 0% and then jump back to 90%.

After a couple minutes it started fading away just like it started.

Just an FYI for anyone else experiencing this.

I had the same problem two years ago but it is now gone. There is a radio tower west of me and I figured that they were doing something but I was never able to get them to own up to it. In my case it woud go on for a couple of hours and then quit. The pulses were about 40 seconds apart for me. There was nothing that I could do to get rid of the problem on my end.

I only know what I've recently read in this forum about C-band, but...
haven't there been other posts about TI, and its source?
People have pointed the finger at airport radars, if I remember.

We have people here with 25 years on C-band.
I'm sure they'll have some good intel.
...or, a search might turn up those past discussions...

It could have been airborne or shipboard radar. We get this often in the San Diego area where there are several military installations within close proximity.
You won`t see it on Ku unless it is law enforcement with their Ku band radar.
The TI filters on your 4DTV receiver don`t work on the digital channels.
Microwave Filter Company makes TI filters.

There is another person who posted from Charleston WV who last year reported TI sometime during the day - and thought it was coming from the Riverboats that were passing with radar on them.

There is a filter available from Microwave Filter and others that eliminates a lot of interference before it gets into the LNB. From Microwave filter, it costs almost $600. From another supplier, it costs just under $400 and its published specs indicate that it performs almost as well. I'll try to find their name. One benefit of buying it from Microwave Filter is that if it doesn't solve your problem, I think they'll give a full refund.

Some people claim that the interference it eliminates is from AWACS radar, which I have read is at 3.65Ghz, but I can't imagine that a filter that passes 3.7Ghz would attenuate a 3.65Ghz signal by any more than a few dB.

About 5 years ago, I had a DirecTV hotel antenna that was getting absolutely pulverized by terrestrial interference, to the point where I thought they were going to have to go to cable. Because this 1 meter antenna is on a rooftop that also has a brick building housing the elevator motors on it, I figured that if I just kept moving the antenna, I'd eventually find a place where the brick building provided a natural shield, but that didn't help. Then, I set the antenna up in the parking lot and draped a wire down the side of the building, but that only slightly reduced the disruptions, which still occurred over once a minute. Then, a few months later, the interference mysteriously ceased.

The TI you're seeing is better known as "sun spots" Twice a year the sun comes in direct line with the receive dish and overpowers the LNB's. The dish can't transmit or receive from the orbiting bird and therefor you see snow, tiling and fading pictures.

Thanks.

Yep, must be.
That's the government's answer to everything:
sunspots... or weather balloons...

...don't forget: swamp gas!

I can only laugh at some of these posts and wonder how people believe some of these things.

You have no idea what you are talking about - to begin with a Sun Outage HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SUNSPOTS. Sunoutages are very predictable and dependent on your location, Satellite you are looking at, Band and Dish Diameter.

For Charleston, WV where the OP stated he had an issue 10 days ago, they would not have even started at the time the OP was having the issue. In fact, for AMC8 in Charleston, using a very small 1.8 Meter Dish which would be the worse, Sun Outages would not have started until Friday - 2 weeks after the OP.

It happens on Ku AND C Band - not just on C Band, though Ku is less severe - and the time varies over several hours depending on which satellite you are looking at - not all at one time!!!

Code:
Predicted Outage | Start | End | Duration | Start | End
Date | UTC | UTC | | EST | EST

Furthermore, if he has a 3.0 Meter Dish, it would be even less of an issue:

Code:
Predicted Outage | Start | End | Duration | Start | End
Date | UTC | UTC | | EST | EST
mm/dd/yyyy |hh:mm:ss | hh:mm:ss | mm:ss | hh:mm:ss | hh:mm:ss
-----------------|----------|----------|----------|----------|------------
03/03/2007 | 21:50:07 | 21:54:42 | 04:35 | 16:50:07 | 16:54:42
03/04/2007 | 21:48:17 | 21:56:07 | 07:50 | 16:48:17 | 16:56:07
03/05/2007 | 21:47:24 | 21:56:34 | 09:10 | 16:47:24 | 16:56:34
03/06/2007 | 21:47:06 | 21:56:26 | 09:20 | 16:47:06 | 16:56:26
03/07/2007 | 21:47:20 | 21:55:40 | 08:20 | 16:47:20 | 16:55:40
03/08/2007 | 21:48:17 | 21:54:12 | 05:55 | 16:48:17 | 16:54:12

So please, do yourself a favor and learn the difference between the 2 SunOutage Seasons each year that have nothing to do with the OP problem or Sun Spots.
