I'm thinking about canceling Dish, I have about 6 months left on my contract my question is is it frowned upon to cancel early?

I have no problem paying the 20 per month early termination fee but I don't want to be "black listed" by Dish in case I ever want to come back.

Please advise.

I think Charlie is frowning just that you are considering it. On the other hand, Claude has a big smile on his face.

Shouldn't be an issue if you don't have any recordings saved on EHD's and don't mind losing them. The recordings are encrypted with your account number, so if you cancel your account you can't get the same one back and any saved recordings will be in the bit bucket forever. That's part of the silver handcuffs that Dish uses to influence decisions on leaving the service.

Is it $20 per month for ETF? My contract says $10 per month. Was thinking of canceling dish because I’ll be on the road for a lot of this year and the hopper 3 with sling is not a reliable streamer.

This is on their website:

2-Year Commitment:
Early termination fee of $20/mo. remaining applies if you cancel early.

Here is a snippet from the 2 year contract that I electronically agreed to. It says $10.

Hello there! We would certainly be sad to see you leave the DISH family. We are happy to look into any concerns that you may have. What were some of the issues, concerns, or missing features you had with DISH that would have made your time with us more enjoyable?

Further to my earlier post about folks leaving Dish and coming back, I'll just add that in all of those cases, they didn't leave due to any dissatisfaction with their Dish service. Most left due to 1+ year assignments to locations with no Dish availability, including one fellow that left for a 15 month stay in Antarctica.

Boy, can you imagine the size of the satellite dish you would need in Antarctica?

I have the same contract which indicates $10/month. Mine is up in a month and will likely put on hold for a few months after. Likely just cancel after that. Reason is simple… I require local sports and Dish does not provide. Since the other service (YouTube TV) has the few channels I require (in addition to the sports for my area), it’s a simple decision. No sports = No Dish…. and less money as well. Much of our time is now spent streaming content. Sorry to leave as have been a customer since 1997.
