The 1st generation is just to get the network online to satisfy the FCC.
Real 5G specs will not be released until the fall of 2020. Once those specs and the software is out Dish will then begin the rollout of 5G.
Other companies will be able to also roll out 5G but it will be limited amount of spectrum for 5G as they still have to support all the customers with 4G, LTR or older equipment. While the DISH wireless network will be all 5G.
That’s a major advantage.

I got to say my donation was well spent.

Now I'm really curious. What the heck is in that dongle that can uncork the bottleneck in the H1 and H2?
Well, I'm a veteran, over 55, and a first responder. I guess DISH will pay me to use the Hopper.
It sends the graphics processing for the menus to an external GPU unit which does the processing for the graphics instead.
What is the Stars and Stripes program?

We may not all agree with everything Dish does, but I think it's neat that they see enough value in our group to treat Scott and the board with the respect that they do.
I'll be 55 in 3 years, so it's at least 3 more years with my trusty 722Youngster

Reading your post it just hit me: I've been 55+ for 14 months now
.I wonder if that Snap thingie will cure the trick play that got wrecked with the CUI "upgrade"? You know the fast forward for 2 minutes, hit play and it jumps 30 minutes into the program? If I have 2 HWS can I get two Snap thingies? Would consider the free upgrade to H3 as a first responder because I have a Sony 65 inch 4K getting UHD only from UHD Blu Ray, but not sure I want to increase my fees, AGAIN. Dropped 2 Joeys last year and added 2 Fire Sticks so going to 1 H3 could force me to add another Joey back. Decisions, decisions...

Just wait till they try to even attempt to launch 5G. It wouldn’t surprise me if AT&T and Verizon both started to team up and crush them like a ant.
Very likely it will be available to retailers.
What this tells me is that they are sitting on a ton of old refurbished inventory and they need this so they can start to dump inventory on customers.
A majority of the customers don’t know the difference between a hopper 2 or hopper 3. As long as it’s a DVR.
Just like they used to say a 622, 722 and 722k was the same.
