During local shows my TV is randomly toggling between Wide Screen and Standard Screen. DTV says it ain't them.

Usually when this happens, it is the local stations doing it. Don't exactly know what is going on, but this is probably not D*'s fault.
Screen size flopping

If your box is set to native it will automatically switch the format based on the feed, this also is a pain as you seem to lose your signal for a few seconds every time you change the channel (until the box figures out the correct format), making the HD DVR's response even slower than normal. I turned off native, set my box to 1080i & manually adjust/stretch as needed with my TV (my TV does a better job of this than the HR22 anyway).
Certain TVs (Phillips for instance) will do this on their own if you have them set to do it. I've seen HD football games for instance, go to commercial and the image will go from 4:3 to 16:9 stretch and then when the full HD comes back after commercial, it's back. Earlier TVs do this.
+1. I set my HR22 this way on advice from the forum and it's working well. It removes a lot of the delay time when the HR22 switches channels. My Panasonic Plasma switches from 4:3 to 16:9 instead of the HR22.
The only thing I'm curious about is the HR set to 1080i all the time. Does that mean that the box is upconverting the 720p from, say, the Fox sports feeds? The Fox feeds seem to look better than they did when I had the HR22 set to Native and had all of the resolution choices selected instead of just 1080i.
On my HR22 I have 720p & 1080i both checked so I can manually format with my remote but to be honest its rare that I ever take it off 1080i as it just doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Even switching the HR22 to 480p for SD broadcasts seems pretty much useless as I've yet to see it make any change/improvement in the picture.
My flip/flopping is during the same show not the commercials. Mid-scene it will go to 4:3. sometimes it will flop back to 16:9 but often just stays.
