I thought Dish would have had enough spectrum for 5G. Why would they pay T-Mobile for more? I thought Dish's issue was infrastructure, not bandwidth.

Regardless, I think Dish's maneuvers indicate they'll be using their spectrum some time soon™ and there isn't a concern about Dish sitting on it. Otherwise, why go through all this?
 
At a certain point, you have to stop saying he “got lucky”, and admit the man has an insight for business acumen.
Hes a poker player. He bluffs A LOT and in this case he waited till they came to him to ask for his help. I do admire that he has stuck with the company and tried to make it diversify into streaming and now cell phone service. But I still think this was pure luck that T mobile and Sprint needed to sell the assets to DISH, so they could get their merger through. Especially since T mobile and DISH had no love lost between them after their failed want to be merger, that neither CEO would cede power to run the new proposed combined company. Charlie has walked away from a lot of partnerships along the way and has a reputation of not playing nicely with others. This has followed him and given him a somewhat bad reputation among the business world and among government departments like the FCC. But he wants to go it alone. Good luck with that. It might not be that long in the future before we see DISH needing someone to help them out of the new wireless company that they create because they simply can't compete with the other big 3 wireless companies. But who knows? Charlie might get lucky again and live to play another day.

Before anyone declares a victory for Dish, this is far from over.

Where exactly is Charlie going to sell his cell phones?

Blockbuster stores would have been perfect, and if the Directv/AT&T buyout has told us anything, the independent SATELLITE retailers are NOT cell phone dealers. So even though selling cell phones through Dish looks appealing, it will not be a success if he thinks he is going to get the retailers to sell his garbage.

Then what you really got to look at, even if Charlie was able to resell “Boost” that is a prepaid cell phone carrier that caters to lower income customers.

What dish needs is the higher end customers that AT&T and Verizon have with their post paid service.

I think we shall see, but I still don’t think dish is in a position to be a 4th cellular phone provider and if they do go that route, watch Dish implode like Directv has
 
Visible Wireless is proving that brick & mortar stores are no longer necessary to sell wireless. As a Verizon customer, it's nice to have the option to go to a store, but any more I avoid going unless I absolutely have to. Their sales people are "in your face" and don't really let you browse. Either that, or the stores are too busy to be seen in a timely fashion. They also don't repair phones any longer, and they won't configure them (this is especially disappointing for the older techno-challenged crowd). They want to drop a phone sealed in plastic in a gift sack and send you out the door.
 
T-Mobile stores aren’t like that. They will answer questions, teach, configure and make it a nice experience.

That may be so, but their coverage sucks in rural areas, so they're still a non-starter for me. You can have the best customer service in the world but if your product doesn't work when and where you need it, then it means nothing.
