Can anyone shed some light on what these figures actually mean:

I have been involvled with FTA for a little more than a year now and would just like a technical explanation of what and how these figures are derived. I have been inputing these numbers into my system with little to no understanding of how it all works from a technical viewpoint.
For example, what is the difference in a TP using 4.321 SR and another TP using 20.000. Is there any quality or strength difference? Is the beam wider? Does it show differently on spectrum analyzer? Do the companies who uplink have certain SR's they must use or is it dependent of the equipment being used?
Any additional reading would be helpful, as it bothers me when I spend hours on end using something I really don't understand all that well.
