Thanks in advance for the responses.

I have the following: SWM LNB, SWM8 switch, 3 DVR's and 2 receivers.

I know the SWM8 switch will only support 8 tuners at one time, but a maximum of 6 tuners are active at any given time. Do I need to upgrade to the SWM16 switch or can I get by with the SWM8 as long as 8 or fewer tuners are being watched?

If you have a SWiM LNB (one wire from the dish), then you wouldn't have a SWiM switch. The one wire 'switch' is basically just a splitter (Zinwell MSPLIT8). If you have a legacy (4 wire) Slimline LNB, then you would have a SWM-8 switch. I know you can use multiple switches with a legacy Slimline for a basically unlimited number of receivers, but I'm pretty sure the one wire LNB only supports 8 tuners no matter what.

As for your 'workaround', it won't work. The tuners are always active and locked, even when the receiver is 'off' (they never really turn 'off', they just blank the outputs), so you will have 10 tuners active at all times no matter what.. You will have to upgrade. To what extent depends on what you actually have.

Know what? It just dawned on me.. If it's 3 DVR and 2 receivers, then that is 8 tuners. DVRs have 2 tuners, receivers have 1. No problem. Unless you mistyped how many receivers or DVRs?

Well, that was a dumb post by me. You are correct it is only 8 tuners. Thanks.
