I have a VIP 612. Last night I recorded the Jets game on NFLTV and then when watching it, I wanted to stop watching temporarily so that I could watch another game on live TV. When I pressed the stop button on the remote, my only choice offered was to stop recording. So I switched to live TV, but then when I wanted to return to my game, I had to start over and fast forward. Obviously I am new to this. Isn't there some way I can leave a recorded program and then return by resume?

Ya know, now that I look a bit closer at it, it may not have a Swap button. Not sure why not, it's got two tuners.

The remote is the same (6.3) as other receivers with PIP and swap. I don't think these buttons do anything on a 612.

The way it works is this:
If you are viewing live TV, but not "Recording" it, you can be behind real time, say 5 minutes behind real time, and you can swap to the other tuner and it won't change the status of the other tuner as it continues to play in the background at the delayed 5 minutes.

However, if you are "Recording" that channel, and you are 5 minutes behind real time, then when you swap to the other tuner, the original "Recording" tuner will advance to live TV so that when you swap back, it advanced 5 minutes to live TV.

The key is if the tuner or tuners are in "Recording" mode.

If the 612 does not have the ability to swap - what is the purpose of the second tuner?

There is no second output.

So you cannot change the receiver to watch TV2 live - what a rip off.

Now I'm really glad I went with the 722k instead.

No tuner swap and buggy, too.

I've got a 612 and I think I can switch between the tuners when they're both recording. I know if I'm recording ch. 120 (for example) and my daughter is recording 172, at least using the guide I can go between the two. Once I've gone between them once, I can use 'swap". If I try to go to a THIRD sat channel, I've got to stop one recording.

However, if I am watching something PREVIOUSLY recorded, jump to another station, I can NOT swap to go back to the recording. As mentioned, I have to go back to DVR and start the show over.
