I know that its not possible to have coax go thru traditional surge protectors, so I picked up some surgenders directly from surgeender.com site and found they have no negative effect on my Directv system that I have experienced. Any techies out there have an opinion on this?

Actually from what i have read, for them to work effectively they need a properly grounded system i believe, cannot remember where i read that, but somewhere.

This is why I don't like having these units connected right at the receiver. Do you really want the surge to finally get redirected at the receiver? I'd rather have it done where it enters the house. But, isn't that what a properly grounded system does anyway?

I know HughesNet installers where i install offer these to this customers, when installed some installers put them on before the cables that connect to the modems, other installers install them on the actual wall plate then have the cable come off it.
