Suggestions for an Audio Recording program

The pastor at our church is looking for a good audio program he can use on his computer to record his ministries so that he can later burn the audio to a CD. Can anyone recommend a good one?

He wants to be able to edit the file in real time for when he messes up and has to go back and record over that portion of the file.

Audacity. record, edit. Will also export as mp3 if you also install LAME. Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder

I wouldn't edit in real time, just cut it out after. Consumes less time and effort.
