We are renting a house for the week in Delaware and the house has Xfinity. There is only one TV in the house and we haven't really watched it much, but would like to watch the local news and weather occasionally. We turned it on the first day we were here and were able to change the channel on the cable box without a problem, but could not turn the TV off or, more annoyingly, turn off the closed captioning. The HD picture quality on it was actually pretty good compared to my parent's TWC. The TV volume and mute worked fine though, but nothing else. We ultimately ended up unplugging both the TV and the cable box from power and have found that as long as the cable box is unplugged all of the TV's functions work, power on-off, change inputs and volume, etc. The problem is that when we plug it back in the cable box takes about 3 minutes to boot up before we can watch TV. I tried looking for some type of HDMI CEC control but could not find any in the Xfinity menus. The kids hooked up their XBOX1 to another HDMI input on the TV and that doesn't seem to affect the TV's operation, just the cable box.

If the box works anything like the X1, while the TV is on, push the down arrow on the cable box remote. A small menu should rise up from the bottom of the screen. Assuming CC is highlighted, push OK and that should toggle the closed captioning on and off.

That worked!! Thanks klang! Still doesn't stop the cable box from hijacking most of the TV's functions. Cable box will not turn off, etc. No time to mess with it really as we are doing other activities here near the beach. At least we can watch the news and weather when we are in. Thanks for the help.

Is Comcast worth switching to ?
