OAKLAND — Huston Street didn't sleep much Sunday night, a series of 30-minute naps in a San Francisco hotel room as he awaited word on an award that people in his hometown of Austin thought he'd already won.
You see, when Street was named The Sporting News Rookie of the Year two weeks ago and the Players Choice Rookie of the Year last week, his hometown paper made a big deal out of it, many people were congratulating him, but Street kept reminding people that wasn't the official one.
"I didn't think I would be this excited," Street said. "I told my mom, 'If I don't win this thing, I'm going to be embarrassed when I go back to Austin. People will be confused.' When I got the call, it was overwhelming."
