Sometimes, when you watch a live event, the strangest things can happen live on air.

I found this old YouTube video:

YouTube - NBC Technical Difficulties at the Orange Bowl January 1992

Salsadancer probably remembers seeing this in the Orange Bowl way back when, since he's a fan of the Hurricanes.

What's the strangest thing you recall seeing on a live broadcast?

P.S. I felt this was the most interesting of Miami's title teams.

On every other Miami national championship team, I can name at least one player who went on to make a name for himself:

1983- Bernie Kosar and the late Jerome Brown

1987- Michael Irvin, Steve Walsh

1989- Russell Maryland

2001- Shockey, Portis, Reed, Sean Taylor, etc.

The 1991 team... I can't.

Great teams....great years....but when we are talking strange...how can anything be stranger than Randy Johnson hitting a bird or some guy parachuting into a boxing matching .....

Strange is probably not an appropriate word for mine, it's more like surreal and tragic:

MLB Opening Day 1996 in Cincinnati,

Homeplate umpire John McSherry collapsed and died during the first inning of the Expos-Reds game. The almost 400 lb. McSherry suffered a massive heart attack. Very sad.

The tornado that hit the Georgia Dome during the SEC Tournament this year was pretty weird. The game it interrupted was in overtime, and led to the rest of the tournament being moved to GT's arena.

The earthquake that hit during the 89 WS was pretty surreal too.

backhaul or commercial feed? Most recently, Drew Goodman was having an argument with someone in the truck a few Sunday's ago before a Rockies telecast. Consequently, last week's feed was not at that same location it was for most of the season. :)

I have that Orange Bowl backhaul on tape somewhere.

Funny you mention that.

Since you're a Redskins fan, do you or Lance remember when a Raiders/Redskins game in 1975 (Believe it or not, there was a time where the Raiders were DECENT) was going on and on, and NBC had to delay the start of their showing of the original 'Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?'

I was working a C-band satellite PPV downlink during the Holyfield/Moorer fight when that guy parachuted into the ring.

SEC Tourney for me too. You could hear what was like an explosion. I thought a bomb had gone off. Thankfully it was "just" a tornado. Also UGA had to play two games in one day and three in two days. UGA winning that tournament is one of the most remarkable things I have seen in a while even though they beat UK during this marathon of games.

I remember the game, but not the Willie Wonka aspect of it. I was at that Raiders-Redskins game in 1975, so by the time I got to Blacksburg, Virginia (I was at Virginia Tech at the time) that night, I wasn't aware of what came on television after the game.

What about the Toronto Bluejays vs. the Oakland A's game during Canseco's and McGuirre years when the network team was panning the hotel within the Skydome and they caught a couple doing the 'horizontal mambo'....?

Nope, don't remember. I was only 1 year old then. :D
