Steelers' bark as big as bite

I know. I forgot to put the smiley on. Tiger stadium had "character", but I don't miss it. Comerica is a superior stadium, much as Ford Field is. Tiger Stadium was a terrible place to watch a football game, but I'll admit I do miss watching football outdoors. Hell, I miss watching football. We don't have a pro football team here in Detroit.

Paul, I love Jacob's Field (still not used to calling it Progressive Field) for Baseball over the Muni Stadium.

But I still think the new Cleveland Browns Stadium is lacking a certain something. It just feels generic IMO. To me, football is a dirty sport, played in rough conditions and played by big, mean men. The old stadium had all of those characters. It was dirty, rough on the exterior, big and mean looking. It was also a holding place for all of the past memories, both good and bad. The new stadium just doesn't have that nostalgia yet. When we host a few playoff games someday, maybe that will change....

I agree when it comes to footbal stadiums . While a modern stadium with all the amenities is great for the fans, a lot of them lack character and a certain intimidating factor. I still remember the Pats-Browns playoff game back in 1994 at the old Municipal Stadium, and that Dawg Pound seemed like it was on top off the players. I think that went a long way in the Browns beating the Patriots that day.

My one exception to having a fondness to old stadiums was the old Foxboro Stadium. It was nothing more than a glorified high school stadium (that might even be a reach in Texas), that was a dump with ZERO character. The new Gillette Stadium is just gorgeous with all the amenities you could possibly need (Randy Cross called it the nicest stadium in the NFL).

Ah yes.... The glare when it rained. The wall with the stars and stripes. The yellowish-green turf with the busted seams. Pat at the 50. The hill behind the north end zone. The camera view of the North Walpole United Methodist Church steeple in October.

Oh yeah.... and the two hour plus wait to get the h### outta there.

Those were the days. :)

Brain,

I think you and I discussed this very thing (that glare on the Foxboro field when it rained :D) on the dbsforums site. And oh yes, the church steeple, how many times did NBC use that shot when they were running their game sponsors? :D

I think it's awesome that you remembered so many details about that place! :up

Been a fan since '76; made the pilgrimage in '94!

I'd hope not, looking at that video, it appears that the fans were lucky to get out before the stadium fell on them.

I had terrible seats, sat behind a damn pole.

No offense HD, but Three Rivers Stadium was 10 times better than that stadium, and Three Rivers Stadium sucked.

A playoff team changes a lot of perceptions, Matt. As your team builds a winning tradition in the new stadium, your thoughts on the new stadium will change.
