Any one else silly enough to flip between all the HD channels showing the SOTU Address to compare PQ? (locals vs HDNet vs HDNWS)
I'm guessing they all use the same feed so some variables are eliminated?
Maybe not a sound theory, I'm no expert, but it's an interesting little experiment.

Will be interesting to check the chart later and see if it correlates to which channels seem to be given better bit rates by Dish.

So far (locals are Boston):

Fox 25: FUZZY!!!! Looks like a 16x9 SD feed blown up. But sound is Dolby Digital according to my receiver. Guess that's the best they can do.

NBC (channel 7 - WHDH): DISQUALIFIED!!! 4x3 format with black bars!!! (hit my Format button to make sure it wasn't me). But sound is showing Dolby Digital.

ABC (channel 5 - WCVB): Clear PQ, dolby digital - the winner of the Boston Locals.
Looks pretty much the same as HDNET and HDNWS.

CBS (channel 4 WBZ): PQ good, but not as good as 5, sound also not as good (Prologic)

HDNET/HDNWS: Clear PQ - HDNWS actually looks a little better than HDNET?.

ABC/HDNET/HDNWS are all looking and sounding good, very similar PQ.
If I had a bigger TV maybe I'd see more of a difference.

Haven't heard a word the president has said.

Edit: All channels mentioned are Dish Network, locals are Dish provided HD locals (non-OTA)

fox was not hd

My receiver showed Dolby Digital sound for fox.

Usually I take that to mean it's an HD feed - but like I said I'm not an expert so I guess it's possible for an SD feed to have dolby digital sound? Or is my Denon 3801 being tricked/confused?

I've been meaning to figure that out - what's the deal?
Thanks!

the fox network always sends out a 720x1280p DD5.1 signal

the content inside the signal will not always be the same though

In the Baltimore area, my OTA from WBAL (NBC) was sharp except for Bush himself. Cheney and Pelosi looked fine. I'm new to HD and I immediately thought that because the President was the guy moving and speaking that I was seeing an example of how moving images don't do as well in 1080i. (My NBC affiliate was in 16x9 format, BTW)

The picture was much sharper on my ABC affiliate in 720p.

This thread is really useless without people telling specifically the provider and method for the channels they quote.

HDNET on 1 cable system is not the same quality as HDNET on another cable system or HDNET on E* or HDNET on D*.

Likewise Fox-HD or ABC-HD is not the same OTA as it is on D* or E* HD-LIL and maybe not the same as some cable systems.

Since this is a Dish Network forum, I thought it would be implied that that was what I was talking about. But you are right, so I just edited my original post to clarify it's all referring to Dish and Dish provided HD locals, no OTA/Cable/Etc

Any info on External USB devices menu?

Installation Problem!!
