Star Choice receiver?

Why are the two slots on the back right side, of the Star Choice HD DVR, there? What are they for?

One is for an mpeg4 upgrade module in the future the other is for an ATSC tuner module that SC software does not support. The Voom receivers (Motorola 550) modules will fit but not operate.
