I'm a new so if this is the wrong place to post this question I apologize and please direct me to the right place; I just bought a Sony SAT-B2 receiver with a dish and LNB (I know the thing is ancient but I got it all for 20.00). I'm already subscribed to Dish Network and want to know if I can use this receiver to receive Dish Network. I want to set it up in my garage. Any information would be helpful.

So I thought. So I either have two subscriptions or buy another receiver. Is an investment in FTA worth it?

Why wouldn't you just get another receiver from Dish, run a coax from your existing dish to the garage or put another dish on the garage if it's too far away? That's got to be cheaper then signing up with D* or getting a FTA setup and you'd get the same programming you get now.

That would probably be the way to go. The garage is in an out building about 100 feet away from the dish. I could probably get away with that run without an amp/booster. I didn't realize that Dish would just send me another receiver if I asked.

Sure, they'll gladly lease you another receiver in return for an 18-month contract. You give them something, they'll give you something.

Go to Dish's website and login to your account. On the right-hand side, click "Equipment information" and it will tell you how much, if anything, it will cost you.
