Sony posts record loss

That's what happens when you operate like you are the king of the hill and you aren't. People aren't going to buy your overpriced televisions because they say Sony on them, same with your handheld console. Rely only in the customers that do and you will fail.

Makes me wonder how this will effect the next generation of game consoles.

I remember how much hype the PS3 had but what a price tag!!

Best thing for Sony would be to break up the company, let the losers fail. Just hope it's not the Creative software or camcorder division. Sony Vegas is the best editing software on the market now for under $1000.

they literally said you would want to work two jobs to buy a ps3.

The price on the PS3 kept us away from upgrading from the PS2, which my son has now had for 9 years, and which he still uses. While the "blu-ray player" functionality once helped justify the price for people, today that does nothing, given the cost of BD players.

At the time we bought our PS3 it was less expensive than a stand alone BD player plus the added benefit of being able to do much more.

Now my PS3 is mostly used for my MLB.TV and watching DVDs and BD.

When I bought it I never intended to use it as a gaming device since I do not game. I played a total of one game one time the whole time we have owned it.

Same reason I bought a PS3. And no games for me either.

Another huge flaw in the PS3 launch... the above class of buyers and selling a console at a $400+ loss means you never make money from that purchase because you don't recoup the loss in game licensing fees.

One of the reasons the PS3 was something like $5b in the red as of a few years ago... they may never actually profit on the system.
