I've been playing dvd's on my ps2 ever since I got one a year after they came out. Yesterday I rented Shoot em up and the movie would activate the autoplay and then go to a black screen with a dark grey bar at the top and not play and the only way to get the ps2 to work was to do a reset. If I went into the dvd menue and tried to access the movie it would do the same thing. Today I took back the movie figuring it was a bad disc and I told the clerk what happened, she said that she has had other customers with Sony dvd players experience the same issue on other movies and she got me a diferent and clean copy of the movie. Tonight I tried the movie and again the same thing happened.

Is this a known issue and has anyone here experienced this and is there a workaround to fix the problem? Does it happen on the PS3 aswell?

I have 4 players; A PS2, 2 sonys and an LG and although I have never rented that particular DVD, I can say I have never had that issue at all.

I have a Sony DVD/VHS player (SLV-D300P) that often takes a very long time to recognize and start playing a disc. And it takes even longer if the clock isn't set. It especially doesn't seem to like Benny Hill discs. Maybe it has a built in critic?

Other Sony players I've owned have limited and jumpy FF search modes. Some other Sony products were, shall I say, disappointments. I bought my PS3 very reluctantly, I assure you. Because of past experience and the root kit, I always try to buy another brand.

I watched the same movie on my Sony DVD Player and had no issues plus I have never had any with my player..

2 Copies of the movie and no go on the ps2, tried it on the computer and the interactual dvd software wouldnt work either so I went to download.com and found kmplayer wich worked great and has alot of features that the others dont.
