There’s a growing belief that former Raiders and Bucs coach Jon Gruden will return to the NFL in 2011. As his son, Deuce (really?), tells it, Gruden may actually be targeting 2012.

Via The Big Lead, Deuce Gruden appeared on the Sporting Rave podcast, and Deuce said that the family could be heading for San Fran or Cleveland.

“He was going to let me finish high school,” Deuce Gruden said. “They were talking about going to San Francisco, but that’ll probably be in the next two years . . . or maybe Cleveland.”

Interesting. Little Deuce didn't mention The U either. Hmm.....

Let me get this straight....they are gonna fire Mangini...after the job hey has done....to hire Gruden?

Hmmmm....not kidding captain obvious that's he not heading to Miami...that's already mentioned and established in the OTHER Gruden thread.

Gruden is a Holmgren guy. The two of them talk from time to time. According to the local paper, it was Holmgren who called Gruden personally to get his opinion on Colt McCoy before the draft. Gruden said he like him A LOT. So when Colty fell to the Browns in the third round, we snatched him up.

Personally, I don't agree in firing Mangini. He's earned another year with what he's doing and with the lack of talent he's doing it with. We've been in EVERY SINGLE game so far this season!

However, Gruden's son is not saying NEXT year, he's saying 2012. Mangini is on the hot seat. If we regress next year, Gruden is in.

WHAT??!! The guy has gotten you to heights you not been since the ORIGINAL Browns were here...and now that you have some whiff of a far possibility....he is in the hot seat??!!

With VERY few big names either from free agents or draft picks. Yeah, Colt is a nice pick and all, but NO ONE expects him to be a franchise QB. As great as Hillis has been, he was traded because no one thought much of him.

Makes you wonder WHY professional athletes leave Cleveland...you guys there don't even wait till the body is cold before you wanna get rid of them....:rant:

I think McCoy could be the Browns QB for many years to come, and a very good one at that.
I like him !

I like him too...but are you willing to bet he is GOING TO BE a "very good" QB? Great means Brady, Peyton Manning, Rivers, Rogers, Brees, Roethlisberger.... Next level is very good, so you are willing to bet he WILL BE as good as: McNabb, Vick, Flacco and Matt Ryan?

I know that is a stretch and I won't make that bet.

sad, very sad...The browns would have to blow up the whole system as mangini and gruden dont have the same style....and then they wonder why they cant get consistent teams...well I will give you a hint (trickle down effect)

Ugh! Why don't you read my entire post instead of just highlighting what's convenient for you?

I said IF WE REGRESS NEXT YEAR, he'll be on the hot seat. He's not in it now.

With a late 3rd round pick, we snagged the most prolific college QB ever. I'm willing to take a flyer on him.

As for Hillis, he was never given the opportunity. Our front office saw enough in him to trade a backup QB for him. Not exactly sure why you're poo-pooing Cleveland for us finally making a few sound moves.

So that's it....one and done...??!! Give the guy a chance....you can expect a quick turnaround if your team was loaded with talent....but some folks cannot be patient I guess.:(

I am poo-poing because you got a coach that SAW that Hillis is a huge asset and traded for him...a coach that SAW that Colt COULD POSSIBLY be a good QB and drafted him....but you still wanna fire his ass if he does not have a good season next year....! Yeah, you and any other Browns fan that thinks that way SHOULD BE poo-pooed on....

But hey, you ARE entitled to your opinion....;)

Oh, jesus, mary and joseph! Again, let me explain since you are blowing things out of proportion yet again...

I don't want Mangini to go anywhere. I don't like changing regimes every other year. It sets an organization back years every time they do it. I hope he continues to succeed now and into the future.

With that said, it's a "what have you done for me lately" league. While I may or may not agree with a firing, the fact of the matter is that if he has a disappointing 3rd season, a step back, a regression from this year, I don't think it's any stunning revelation that Mangini will be on the hot seat next year.

In his 1st year (2009), the Browns went 5-11.
In his 2nd year (2010), we're 5-7 with 4 games remaining.

3 years is enough time for Holmgren and the front office to demand a steady improvement from his head coach. If the Browns go out and win less than 5 games next year, he'll be on the hot seat. Whether you, I or the entire population of Cleveland agrees or not.

And PS. This draft and free agent pick-ups HAVE been phenomenal. A helluva lot better than year's past even. I am holding my breath as who to actually give credit to though. Remember, the Browns hired a new front office this year that included Mike Holmgren and ex-Eagle GM, Tom Heckert. Coincidence? I dunno. Perhaps Mangini will thrive as just being a coach and letting others evaluate talent for him....

First and foremost.....this was your EXACT quote:

Mangini is on the hot seat. If we regress next year, Gruden is in.

That tell means you are talking about right now. 2ndly, Do you HONESTLY think you have the talent to win right now? I would think you are a couple of players away from possibly making a run.

Note the bold RED words of "next year".

Mangini is on the hot seat. If we regress next year, Gruden is in.

And yes, I agree we are still a couple players away from being "contenders", but I also don't think it's unreasonable to expect progress and not regression NEXT YEAR.

What urks me most ...and believe me, the Raider Nation has done this too. You, me and most fans are under the assumption that not only do you expect improvement, but no injuries, no trades or free agent losses. .....and you cannot assume that.

Well, truth be told, we may be arguing about nothing, because who even knows what the 2011 NFL season has in store for us, if anything at all. Labor negotiations still aren't settled.

I doubt that these moves had much to do with Mangini.
