It's growing ;)

Doesn't look good for WRTV, WISH, WTHR, and WXIN (INDIANAPOLIS HD Locals). These were unavailable before but you know it doesn't look good when a channel is uplinked in engineering mode and never makes it to "available" mode.

I emailed a guy with "Executive Communications" at Dish and asked what was going on with the Indianapolis HD Locals. Here is his reply.

"I received a response from our programming staff. Unfortunately it was not good news. The launch of the Indianapolis HD locals will be put on hold indefinitely. There are no further details regarding this. Sorry for the disappointment. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Bummer..... this was one reason I went back to Dish. Guess we can't have it all.

We also can't always rely on the uplink report either. The uplink center could put all kinds of channels in the tables we read with whatever names they want. Bell ExpressVU already does this to confuse people looking at the tables. Just because a channel is uplinked doesn't mean it is coming to a TV near you. When a channel is uplinked in engineering mode they are basically testing their ability to receive the content and retransmit it on their system. Once this is done it's up to the other departments to do their work on getting it approved, legally, financially, etc.

You basically have to appreciate the uplink report as knowing a few secrets that *might* come true.

That's why you NEVER switch to a service on the premise that something is coming - ONLY if it is ALREADY up & working... ;) :p

Oh, I understand all that. That's why I said it was "one of the reasons", not the reason. But, I was told by dish customer service and a few other dish employees that there were indeed coming. That's the only thing that urks me a little. But all in all, I'm happy with Dish and I get HD Locals via OTA.
