I'm having a hard time watching live tv or my dvr on my corporate network and there aren't any settings to adjust. Below is what I asked Dish and they had no suggestions. Anyone else had any luck with a similar situation or possible suggestions?

I have been using my sling adapter connected to my hopper for a couple weeks. It works great on my iphone and home computers. I have even been able to use my Kindle Fire and watch my live tv using the sling adapter. I have also been able to use it on computers outside of my home network. However, I am having a problem when trying to view anything while on my computer at work. I am a teacher and want to view programs on my computer at work. The tech guy at our school installed the sling player on my computer for me and I thought I was all set. Whenever I go to watch live tv or watch dvr events it tries loading the video for several minutes and then get an error message (error 6). I have spoken to someone at Dish and they had me check my connection speed and my browser and reset my hopper from dish online. The tech guy believes that there should be somewhere where he can adjust proxy settings to make sure the video gets through. I can see events that I have recorded on my dvr but it won't play them or live tv. I am able to watch on demand progams on the dish online website. My school's tech guy is willing to make adjustments, but I don't know where to go from here. He just needs more information. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the network at school because all other devices have had no issues and no issues connecting from other computers on other networks. I'm really disappointed because I got the sling adapter to show my students programs and its not working!!

Can you bring in a laptop from home that it works on and hook it up to the school network and attempt to sling? Maybe it has something to do with that school PC. I've seen people with multiple pcs on the same network and one works while another shows errors..

I'll try it on my laptop tomorrow. I've tried it on my iPhone and my kindle fire with the dish remote access app and it just closes when I try on those devices. Thanks for the suggestion.

I had the same problem on my work network. What found is that the filtering software on my network mess up the sling. The software is the type to prevent you from going to bad web sites like Facebook. I have to make sure that I turn it off so I can use my sling. I still not a 100% I think that problem would be the problems with the dish web site.

If these other devices are also having a hard time on your work LAN, then the problem is your work LAN. There is a very good chance your firewall is set to block streaming video. Have you tried viewing videos from YouTube, Facebook, or Hulu? What about the OnDemand stuff on Dish Online? Does that work, even though the Sling Adapter doesn't?

I can stream on YouTube and other video sites and watch the on demand programs on dish online. Only live tv and my dvr programs won't work.

But, you say it works with mobile devices from your office/classroom? Are the mobile devices connected to your school's wi-fi, or are you using the cellular data connection? If the latter, can you try wi-fi, and see if that works?

My mobile devices only work using the cellular network. I tried my laptop using the school's wifi today and get a different error message. Error 44 that say I was streaming from your device but streaming was interrupted. Also, my tech guy opened up ports 80/443/5678 which was something dish suggested but no change on my school computer.

Maybe check the MTU and verify its at 1492 or higher. If I had to take a guess, I would guess that it has to do with some sort of security software they are running but I doubt they would be willing to disable that for you to test to see if that helps.

Do you know what kind of broadband service that your workplace has? If it is satellite or some manner of wireless Internet, that may be your problem.

I know they use something called smooth wall for security. Also, I have tried Ethernet and wifi networks at school. Neither work but I get different error messages from each.

Smooth Wall is one of several Linux-based router/firewall distributions. It has lots of filtering options and may include the Squid web proxy/cache depending on the configuration.

Like most of these distros, it is highly configurable and supports all kinds of reporting.
