I have read these forums for hours and messed with my Slimline 3 dish (one wire) and h25 receiver for hours and hours. For the life of me I can't get a signal or even a partial signal. I purchased all the equipment new and activated the h25 without incident. My dish is perfectly level, the h25 pretty much set it self up, I adjusted the settings per the zip code, slowly went east and west, used mobile phone app dish pointers, looked at several neighbors direct tv dishes for the general direction, used the compass (the one that came with it and the one on my phone), been over the installation directions a million times, I don't get any error messages nor does the set up program give me options to change the dish settings (grayed out). I have two questions;
1- the RV kit I purchased had a short piece of wire about 6" long wrapped in white flexible material. The directions didn't mention this in installation process nor was it listed in the parts list. Do I need this and if so, where does it go?
2- is it possible I have a bad piece of equipment?

Any help would be appreciated

The little white piece you mentioned, sounds like what they use sometime when you have to go thru a window or door.

Like Tex mentioned, where's your Power Inserter .... you won't get any reading without it.

I'm not sure what the red jack is or the two way splitter? The cable runs from the dish to the power supply (inserter), to the h25, to the tv. Is this not correct?

on the power inserter, there are two ports, a red one and a orange (or gray) one. the red one goes to the dish (it has the light over this port too). the other one to the receiver. if that's backwards you may have fried the receiever.

also, just to double check, the LNB you put on the dish, was there only one port to connect to or where there four?

One line on the dish. I don't recall what colors the inserted hook-up are, I don't think they are color coded, but it's clearly labeled power to swm and the other says to ird. I'm positive they are hooked up right. If I don't have the dish plugged in the screen will tell me no SWM detected. I plug it in and it goes thru the search mode and says something to the effect of re-align dish and test again. I've shut everything down, hit the reset button on the receiver, went thru the process over and over. I've even changed the 50ft cable with the same result.

I wondered if something may have happened when direct tv activated the card, but wouldn't I still be able to get a signal, just not receive the actual channels? What happens if the LNB was damaged during shipping? It looks fine and the box was in good shape when it arrived. Would I get an error code or something if it was bad?

It's also in a remote location on my RV with nothing at all even close to obstructing the view. If it wasn't so remote I would just pay a service call and have them fix it.

I doubt its the access card, if it was you would be getting a message about the AC.
Irt sounds like you have it set up correctly.
Is the light on the PI green ?

Are you sure you are aligning the dish correctly? How did you set the elevation?

:welcome to Satelliteguys Littledawg!
One mistake many people make is what texasbrit is talking about. The elevation is set by the bracket behind the scale, and it normally has a red line on its leading edge. Don't use the locking nut to align it.
Also, what is your zip? Are you using magnetic north or true north to align the azimuth?

It is almost impossible to align a dish using just a compass. at the very least you need to use the H25 signal meter to try to get a lock on the dish. Eye balling it aint just gonna work!

Yes light is green. As I stated in my first post I used two different compasses (phone & the one that came in the package) + I used the dish align phone app. They were all pretty close the the same direction. I've had someone sit in by the tv and watch the meter w/o so much as a blip. Yes, used the red line to get close, and then used the fine adjustment all the way in and all the way out while someone watched the meter. One would think ya could get some sort of reading and adjust from there. Zip code is 84533

Keep in mind, the Sat your trying to pinpoint on is 23,000 miles away, you have to be exact.
Also, the numbers for azmith is to give you a starting point, get you in the area, very seldom do you set this all up to the numbers and walk inside and it's there.
Although my Dad has done that a few times, amazingly.

A compass just tells you the satellite "is over there" is up to you to find it. A phone app is just as good as you licking your finger and feeling the wind direction! Once you preset the AZ and EL, you need to swing the dish left or right SLLLOOOOOWWWWWLLLLLLY even more so if you are using the receivers built in meter. There is a delay, 2 to 3 seconds from where you move the dish till you see movement in the receivers meter.

You don't use the fine adjustment controls until you have a decent signal. Seems to me you are adjusting the dish without any systematic approach. Set the dish to the numbers you get from the phone app, or from the receiver (they should be close to the same). Then point the dish say 15 degrees to the left and slowly move the dish to the right until you have a signal on 101. Do NOT adjust elevation until you have a good signal in azimuth. Do NOT worry about the other satellites until you have the 101 peaked. Ideally you should "dither" the dish first in azimuth and then in elevation until you are in the center of the 101 beam. (If you can't find directions using Google on how to "dither the dish" then post back).
Once you are in the center of the 101 beam you should see decent signals on 99/103. Use the fine tune controls to peak 99/103.

always emphasis on slowly when adjusting azimuth.. people dont account for the delay and if the person inside watching the meter blinks they'll miss it
