I have a Dish 721 receiver. I notice some sound defects only on Sky Angel channels which sound like clicking or growling triggered by voice articulation. I haven't noticed anyone else comment on this issue, so I thought I'd ask here. Does anyone else notice it? Is it a result of excessive compression?

I know how hard it is to describe a sound. Sky Angel channels in general are "crunchy". The sound is very bright with extremely limited range. This is definitrly due to the compression necessary to squeeze 20 video and 16 audio channels into two MPEG 2 transponders.

Now if you are talking about a garbled tones that follow the pitch and tone of the voice, that is a new one on me. I also have a 721 receiver and do not have this issue.

Nor do I on my 721

I have both a 721 and a 501. The sound on the 501 is fine while the 721 sounds like fireworks are going on several blocks away. This appears to be a new problem in the last week. I notice it mostly when music is being played and sung.
