I'd like to see an active thread here where SA IPTV subscribers post what programming they especially like. A comment might help someone else discover a real treasure! The thread may also help people who are "checking out" Sky Angel and want to know what current users watch/listen to.

Additionally, if you view a TV program on a faith channel that really blesses you, please take a moment to post a note here so others can be sure to watch it while it's still available in the 48-hour go-back window.

My favorites:

TV:
- Every Day with Marcus and Lisa - FamilyNet, M-F mornings (and other rebroadcast times)
- Mornings (listed as Morningside) - FamilyNet, M-F mornings; simulcast on Sirius; great alternative to secular network morning programs.
- Aspiring Women - Total Living Network and FamilyNet, various times; interviews/testimonies
- Faith and Fame - Gospel Music Network, various times; testimonies/bios of Christian artists
- Front Row Live - Gospel Music Network - concerts
- Gaither Homecoming - on many times during the week on various channels
- Some favorite teaching programs: In Touch, Life on the Edge, Thomas Road, Joyce Meyer - available at various times on various channels
- Gospel Music Television - southern gospel videos, with commercials - I never watch "live," instead choose a previous time slot so I can skip over commercials

Radio:
- Oasis Network - great variety of music; can reference a minute-by-minute listing of music titles/artists at their website
- Moody - excellent teaching programs; Prime Time America - 4:00 CDT
- Bott - excellent teaching programs, no music
- America's Talk Satellite - like Janet Parshall best; particularly interesting programming during this election year
- Solid Gospel - southern gospel music, but lots of commercials
- Call to Worship - KTLW, Sunday mornings - wonderful "preparation for worship" program I listen to while I am getting ready for church each week

I also enjoyed the recent TBN rebroadcast of their tribute to Dottie Rambo.

I make it first priority to catch favorite radio broadcasts since I cannot "go back" for those. I like to end my day by searching out 1-2 good TV broadcasts in the "go back" mode.

As I keep mentioning, I have multiplied the value of Sky Angel by adding a $100 FM transmitter that sends SA audio to every radio in my house, garage, or yard. I also bought an extra SA remote and purchased a remote extender. That allows me to turn SA on/off and change channels from anywhere in my house. Comes in especially handy overnight if I can't sleep -- I can turn SA on and change channels from my bed.

Other ways I make SA work better for me:
- I took time to set up a "Favorites" program guide at the Sky Angel site. After I sign in, I can keep it minimized on my Windows taskbar and reference it all day long. The personalized guide displays only channels I actually watch, and channels can be displayed in whatever order I choose.
- I used my ListPro software to set up a quick-reference guide to what my favorite programs are during each time slot during the day (with channel name/number). It took some work to set it up, but now I can pop that up any time and quickly see the 1-3 programs I would likely choose from all the offerings during that time slot. (I loved that our old DBS service allowed tuner settings -- whenever I turned SA on during the day, my program of choice was already tuned in!)
- I set up a SA folder in my Internet favorites and added links to all my favorite SA TV/radio channels.

Yes, I know I am a bit OCD about this. I don't want to just aimlessly roam around in all the SA choices -- I want to make sure I am getting real value from having it, catching the "gems" that are there every day!

Would enjoy reading others' comments about favorite programming and ways you are maximizing your enjoyment of Sky Angel IPTV programming.

I am really getting a kick out of the Beverly Hillbillies!

They were funny when I was a kid but even funnier now! And it's GREAT being able to watch them and the other Faith package programs whenever I have time, not just when they are on!

I also enjoy TLN and Cornerstone.

Origins is an excellent program.

I am enjoying the old westerns and old TV shows, too.

i work from 3pm to 11pm and i like to watch murder she wrote and walker
texas rangers when i come home on gtn. also like to watch quincy on gtn before i go to work. also i'm glad i can go back and watch billy graham's old crusades on tbn. also i love the movies on familynet. since i can't get my local csn radio in my house its neat i can listen to csn on skyangel. my wife loves fox news. i also enjoy watching nasa tv . i love watching the stranger on tbn.and i love the southern gospel tv network too.
god bless
john

I really like the music video channels a lot, and the Pentagon Channel has some cool shows (would you believe a cooking show?) too. For someone not too inclined to cook, it keeps my attention!

I just want to say that I am so very thankful for the programming I receive through Sky Angel. This morning when I turned it on, I heard the last few minutes of a testimony by Joni Eareckson and her husband, Ken. In an hour or so (after the program becomes available for the 48-hour review), I will be able to go back and listen to the whole testimony. Then I worshiped the Lord along with the Shadow Mountain Church choir as they sang the awesome "You Are Holy." Great preparation for continued worship at church this morning!

Most of the TV programming I choose on Sky Angel is on FamilyNet -- a channel I could not watch any other way. What a blessing!

J-
What channel was Joni's testimony on and what channel was the Shadow Mountain Church on? I'm looking through the menu's for Sunday now.... can't find it.

Thanks
Kevin

Both were on FamilyNet. I think the Joni Eareckson testimony was on at 5:30 a.m. CDT (6:30 on the SA listings - Eastern time). The show was listed on the guide as Day of Discovery, but I'm not sure it really was that program.

Then the Shadow Mountain service was on right after that, I think maybe they call it Turning Point weekend.

Addendum: I just did some on-line searching. The Joni Eareckson testimony was on Day of Discovery - I checked their website. Then I went to the Sky Angel on-line guide and chose the search option. Both Day of Discovery and Turning Point TV are on at other times that you can still locate within the 48-hour window. Turning Point is repeated on Thursdays on FamilyNet. Day of Discovery is on at a number of times on various channels. That's one nice thing about SA programming -- most ministries are repeated at different times on different channels.

I also like Chip Ingram's Living On the Edge TV program that is on FamilyNet on Sunday afternoons. Because it is not repeated (I don't think), I put a reminder in Outlook to tell me I need to watch it by Tuesday.

Sorry I didn't get back to you, Kevin, before the 48 hours passed -- but as it turns out, you still have other options to catch both broadcasts.

More Channels & VOD!

I spent a week away from the home TV and when I got back discovered 3 more TV channels have been added. There is also much more available on the Video on Demand section. There is even a karaoke section now available (and free to boot!). As far as I'm concerned, the SA IPTV service just keeps getting better all the time. Also looking forward to football season with the NFL network.

Larobpra,
After reading your comment above, I went to the VOD section of SA IPTV last night and too discovered that SA is making a major overhaul. I was surprised to see that content from secular channels (i.e. NFL Network, Animal Planet, Discover, etc.) are going to be made available at some time. I also liked the Karaoke section. However, I noticed something that worried me. There are no contemporary Christian songs in the Karaoke section yet but I suspect that will change over time. However, there are a lot of pop/rock songs that are available in the Karaoke section that have questionable lyrics and/or content. For example, the song "Rich Girl" actually has a slang curse word in it...not the kind of song I want my kids to be singing along with...let alone listen to. It makes me wonder if SA is becoming more secular with its programming. Will SA eventually allow movies with unacceptable ratings and/or content in the VOD section? I sent an e-mail to SA for their input but haven't heard back yet.

I am surprised SA does not post information about new channels that have been added on their web site or send an e-mail to their subscribers.

I assume you mean the 3 added to the Family package
Outdoor Channel
ION Life
qubo Channel

Christian Television Network (CTN) has also been added to the Faith package

Does cause one to wonder......

I'll bet those offerings were slipped in by NeuLion.

NeuLion is an IPTV company owned by Chinese Americans out of Long Island NY. They distribute the IPTV content for Sky Angel and several other IPTV services. None of them are pornographic....to my knowledge, but NeuLion's networks are not exclusively family focused either. I believe they provide official IPTV access for NY Islanders hockey games, a package of Chinese language channels, etc.

Actually even before the box was available I questioned the impression presented that the box was locked so that you couldn't get other programming. Having other programming available actually makes the service more attractive to me.

Others may bellyache about non-SA programming being available making it somehow less desirable for them to subscribe to SA but if you don't like it just don't subscribe to the additional programming. It was the same with DBS.

As a follow up to my previous post about SA having inappropriate songs in the Karaoke section of VOD, I received the following e-mail from SA.

Dear Mr. Day,
Thank you for your email and for the opportunity to answer your questions. We're working hard at providing you and your family with the best faith and family programming available. Our VOD category is being worked on and improved every day. Even as I write this, we have removed that song from the playlist. Thank you for bringing it to our attention and please know that we at Sky Angel remain committed to our mission which is to enable the Gospel to be preached to the world.
Thank you for your patience and we appreciate your support and prayers.
In His Service,

Jeff,

Do you think this means that Faith TV is pulling out of Sky Angel. This was one of my favorite channels on the Faith Package....

Kevin

I would doubt it as Sky Angel was how FaithTV got its start. I’m with you; FaithTV has been an excellent channel.

Jeff

I love Know the Cause with Doug Kaufmann....I don't have the sense of commitment to follow all of his health advice....but he is right on the money with his diet advice and central theme around mold/fungus been the root of many illnesses.

I appreciate their movies. But what I am really thankful for Jeff is The Flamethrower hosted by Jason 'Molotov' Mitchell - Saturday night at 11 PM. Its a round table of 20 somethings discussing key issues of the day. It's a no holds barred environment, with no emphasis on political correctness.

They used to have a program on M, W, F at 7 PM - Praise Moves workouts but they stopped airing it on Aug 1. A church bought out that time slot for their services. It may be added back later. On the positive side of this loss, I called Faith TV and got right through to the programming director who explained to me what happened.

Happy viewing,
Kevin
