Sirius Lifetime subscription?

If they brought it back, I'd have to seriously think about it, it cost too much other wise.
Or drop it all together, however another person on the account likes it very well.

I've had lifetime for about fours now. I think it cost $350. I never had to pay more for the royalty fee.

Also, I've heard from several people that once their trial was over in a new car, they kept getting sirius free. And still do, as far as I know.
Same here I gave 4 lifetime subscriptions since they first came out and have never had to pay more for the royalty fee

SiriusXM tells me that lifetime subscriptions are not allowed on vehicles nor are they supposed to be transferable between vehicles.

Don’t know what to tell you, purchased it back around 1998/1999 from Sirius and have transferred it multiple times since then, last time a few months ago.

Question: if you buy a home/portable receiver from a person and it has the lifetime on it how would you change it to your name?

I have a friend who purchased an XM receiver from eBay in 1998. It had a lifetime sub. He put it in his car and it played all the channels. He's been gone now for 9 years and his son has that same receiver in his car, it still plays all the channels. With lifetime names don't matter. It's like picking up the free radio channels on AM/FM...

1998? That's pretty impressive considering what eventually became XM while formed in the late 80s, the service didn't launch publicly until the Fall of 2001. I believe the launch was supposed to happen on 9/12/01, but that didn't happen for obvious reasons.

Obviously I have my years stirred! :) I know he got that radio early in the XM realm. I had one and he liked it so he went to eBay and bought one. The family has never paid a dime over the cost of the receiver and it still receives channels. Maybe it got lost in the system....

I think Juan is correct, XM never had a lifetime subscription prior to the merger. I could have sworn they did, but in looking it up the best I could find was pre-paid multiyear discounts for as long as 5 years. I know in the early days of XM, if you powered off and disconnected a receiver prior to calling in to cancel, wait a few days or a week, and then hook the receiver back up you could continue to listen as the kill signal only was sent for a short period of time and after X amount of times of retrying it would give up.

A buddy of mine bought a 2012 used car. To his surprise the SiriusXM works fine and continues to work fine for months.

I guess they don’t do any kind of key rotation or ecm’s like tv providers do. I just don’t think they have the bandwidth or cost structure for such a designed system. If it’s that simple I can’t believe why hacking these radios don’t come up more often. I’m not even sure I read a defcon presentation on hacking satellite radio, but then again I haven’t looked in awhile.

When I got my car in 2014, I purchased it used from a dealer and SiriusXM was still active from the previous owner as well. I was able to listen for free for a few months, but what did me in was a free preview week. After the free preview week was over, something must have sync'd up, as I was down to just the preview channel, and on my infotainment system in the information screens in now showed the radio was deactive.

Thats why they do free previews
...they hope the older radios get turned on so they can be shutoff

I'll have to ask my buddy if his used car still has free SiriusXM then. I know they just did preview at the end of May through Memorial Day.

Yes, XM did have Lifetime ...
I seriously considered it back when I had XM (should say when I had all XM, now I am mixed due to vehicles).
I wish I would have taken it back then ...
