Dumping Time Warner TV (keeping cable internet though). I have not signed up yet, but will do by 02/08 so I can get promotion

#1 - I dont have HD tv. However, one of my TVs support Component (not SD). Can I still get the FREE HD DVR receiver and hook it up to that? My other TV only has RCA jacks so I dont think that will work. I called Direct TV and lady said it will work but I think she was just saying that regardless

#2 - Should I sign up online via internet or by phone? Lady said she can save me $5 a month. I rather do it online. I am also not getting the $100 visa cause I will never let them do auto-pay

#3 - Satellite Dish - When I bought my 2 story house, it had an old DirectTV dish already installed on the bottom floor in backyard. I threw it out already and cut the line to it. Why would someone install a dish 2 ft off the ground? I should tell them to install new one on top of roof, right?

4# - Installation - I already have coaxles running through house for Time Warner. Do they need to change out wire or can they just use old one?

Thanks in advanced for all your advise.

The HD receivers have component, composit and s-video outputs, just not RF outputs, so you'll be OK.

Find a friend with DirecTV and get them to give you the referral info, both of you get $100.

A pole mount is nice to have since it allows easy access to the dish. That's important if you live in an area with snow or ice so you can go clean off any buildup.

It will all depend on what the installer finds, maybe he will, maybe he won't. If you get a SWiM LNB or switch there's a better chance that existint cable could be used.

I agree with what Rad said, also, Call in , chances are you'll get a better deal than online.

IF your going to have a referral, make sure to call the special referral number when ordering.

Did they fix the "wrong number" in the web based ads screw-up; just making sure before this guy uses the refer a friend option only to be told a few months down the line the number used was incorrect. Since every CSR can email specifics like this I would get the basics of what I'm being offered sent via email to have just a little proof. Having said this, DTV CSR's have always been professional with me & always kept their word about stuff that was promised.

HMMM.....that got a little long, sorry.

After seeing it posted, I guess it wasn't that long after all, 'cept it's longer now.

Pole Mount' option - I live in OH and we get ALOT of snow and ice. Are you saying that having it on the roof is a bad idea then since I cant get to it? Maybe thats why it was mounted to the vinyl house siding about 2 ft off the ground?

Thanks for all your replies. Some great stuff!
