Okay, this is my first post here, and I come with confidence that you are the right guys to help me out on this problem.

We recently moved to a new home and I was dumb enough to decline calling Dish and having them set up the dish at the new home... after settling in and getting the dish mounted and pointed and set up right I had no problems, I had all channels and great signal, everything was great.

But a couple days later I started noticing significant signal loss, to the point of lossing channels for a few minutes at a time, I went into the point dish setup screen and I would get 60-75% signal on some transponders and 0-20% on other transponders. I didn't have time to deal with it and went to bed.

The next day when I came home from work and turned on the tv I had lost complete signal, nothing came in, I didn't get any of the satellites or the transponders... so I went out to where I'd mounted the satellite, checked, double checked, quadrupal checked all of the settings and it was pointed in the right direction.

One thing is, I didn't install a DP34 switch, and I don't even remember if there was one when I took the dish down... could the contribute to my problem? It's a dish 500.

Thanks for the read, hope to figure this out soon!

I agree, sounds like the bolts weren't all the way tight or it is pulling away from the wall or poll or whatever you have it mounted to.

It was poorly mounted to our little shed... two of the bolts had come loose, but I did remount it to a lower spot on the shed and repointed it... still nothing.

Do you think I should try to repoint it again, is a switch needed, bad cable?

Are there any trees or other obstacles in that direction? The higher spot on the shed may have been better. Check your connections again, too.

Take a receiver and a small TV outside and connect it to the LNB. Do a Point Dish from the Install menu. Peak for both the 110 and 119 satellites.

The easiest way to make sure you are aiming it right is to either use a hand held meter or connect the dish directly to a receiver. Once you have peaked it this way, then you can connect through your normal wiring system. If it works with it connected directly to the dish but won't work through your normal wiring system, then you know that you have a different issue. From your explaination it sounds like it just isn't pointed correctly now (or there is something in the way).

Alright, first of all I want to thank you guys for your quick responses... that was amazing. Secondly I'm going to have to wait until my next day off on Thursday to try mounting it up closer to the top of the shed and repointing it.

And they're talking about possible rain for thursday... fantastic!

That doesn't sound fun at all. Let us know if you have any more problems and we'll try to help! By the way, Welcome to SatelliteGuys!!!!

Well I got out of school early today and don't head into work until 4... I relocated the dish back up by the spot it was originally and set everything back up like before, ran a check switch and regained some signal. I went back to the channel select and it said it was searching for the satellite then the weird thing happened.

It found Satellite 129. And loaded it up. Now my only channel I get is that "Congratulations! You have Dish 1000!" channel... and I don't have dish 1000.

Is this just because it's pointed at the wrong satellite?

Yep, you need to swing it to the east about 10 degrees and repeak. This assumes that it is the 119 eye that is seeing the 129 sat. If it is the 110 eye that is seeing the 129 sat then you need to swing 20 degrees to the east.
