Should I swap a subbed DISH box for a subbed BEV box with someone in Canada?

Under a bridge
I live in the US and have been talking with someone in Canada about swapping subbed boxes.

But I hear odd stories of BEV calling the subscriber and asking them to provide the location IDs off of all the recievers. True?

And even weirder: that Bev requires all boxes to be hooked to a phone line so that they can verify that all subbed boxes are actually at the address paying the subscription. Is this True?!

Anybody have any useful advice, suggestions or opinions on this?

Thanks :)

I think you picked the proper screen name.

Maybe helpful. Contract violation? yes. Canadian law doesnt apply to me, and I sure don't know what US law I would be breaking. Maybe an FCC regulation. That would make sense. Perhaps you could direct me to the popular name of the statute in question. I ran a Lexis search of US statutes and Administrative regs and found nothing. But the regs are not the friendliest things to search.

Thanks

Canadian law does apply if you ever hope to set foot there. Besides, it's a civil violation, so all they could do is sue you, and yes they can do that in a U.S. court (applicable law-stealing of services). And Dish/Directv could easily go after you and/or your buddy too, just ask all those folks who got charged in Canada a few weeks ago for stealing/sharing Directv.
And yes, Bell does do location ID calls (had one a few weeks ago) for boxes not hooked up to a phone line. Fail the call, and the box is shut down.

what you want to do is account splitting and that isn't allowed (here, at Dish or Bell)
