I really want to get Directv in January, although I want to be able to view
DVR content from a single unit on more than one TV. My choices are
* Get Directv now and only get what they currently have
* Get Dish Network DVR which has what I want
* Wait for Directv home media system which from what I read, will have

I've pulled the trigger and ordered my DirecTV system. ValueElectronics has DVR80's which are hackable to allow Home Media. If you don't mind going through the hassle of upgrading the DVR80, order them before they're gone. The DVR 80 has been discontinued, but VE still has about 60 left.

I wouldn't get D* until they have an HD DVR. HD is great to have but you need to be able to watch it when you want to. You'll be happy to get it, but after a few days you'll wish you had the DVR. IMHO :tux:

I believe hacking is not a restricted topic, Scott or a moderator please correct me if I am mistaken. Hacking is adding caller ID, or a larger hard drive or explaining how to get your DVR to do the 30/60 second skip. Hacking a DVR is not illegal.

We still have a very limited inventory of Hughes DVR80 and R10 TiVo's available. We can not replace this inventory as it is no longer manufactured.

The Hughes DVR80's can be hacked for whole house distribution.
