Should 722k lose OTA channels in rain?

I'd been accessing OTA channels via an A/B switch, the local antenna on one leg, the Dish DVR on the other. Inconvenient but effective. If rain took out my Dish signal I could still see the local channels and find out how serious the rain was. To improve the convenience I bought an OTA module. Installed in my 722k it worked as advertised. However, when we next lost the Dish signal due to rain we also lost access to the OTA channels. Even if we were watching an OTA channel when the rain hit all we got was the "searching for signal" screen.

This, to my simple mind, makes no sense. The OTA signal is still there when it rains. When I used the A/B switch I could get up, flip the switch and the TV's source, and all was good. Now I have nada.

Have I messed up something with the OTA module or is this the expected behavior of Dish's OTA module?

When it happens, go Menu, channel guide, then select the OTA station. It will come back up. You just have to get off the warning screen.

Many thanks cditty & KAB. I'd searched the forums but did not find your posts, cditty. Good to know it's not designed-in. I hadn't thought of using the Menu button, KAB -- too new to the Dish remote. Nice to have a work-around.

Yep KAB is correct. That is the fix. I wouldn't expect them to fix it any time soon. This issue goes all the way back to the 942 for me (and happened on the 622, 722 and now the 722k.

Yeah, don't expect a fix. If something so blatantly wrong wasn't fixed instantly like it should've been, they'll probably never fix it. Defying logic is a requirement to work at Dish.

I don't see a yellow sign unless I lose an ota channel due to low signal strength. When it rains I just tune to an ota channel on either one or both tuners and I never lose my satellite receiver for tv watching. IF I wait too long after the rain starts and I am on a sat channel , I will have to hit menu and then program guide to get to an ota channel.

I can't say I ever experienced this (as much, at least) with my 622. With the 722k, it happens fairly often but also didn't seem to occur until 1-2 months ago, coinciding with a s/w update.

Is this the SAME issue that you say goes back to the 942 ?

Has Dish ever acknowledged the problem to anyone ? They can't fix it if they don't know about it... It would seem easy to "ignore" the error if it doesn't affect a channel currently being viewed but since it's not fixed (yet), maybe it's much more in-depth than it appears.

Never tried to talk to Dish about it. Not that big a deal to me. Just been doing the work around for so long it is like second nature.

I talked to them and asked them to officially report it as a bug about 2 weeks ago, when I couldn't watch Football on my Fox HD affiliate on OTA.

They said they would, but I wasn't counting on that being true.

When is the next tech chat ? Getting an acknowledgment there may mean it's "known". Anything tech support says has to be taken with a grain of salt... Too often they're most interested in ending the call, not "solving" anything. Unless they can read off the internal ticket description of the problem, who's to say their response of "it's a known issue" is a cop-out ?

Open 2nd account for Son. NEW customer???

Will I still be able to view recorded shows after downgrade?
