just a couple of quick questions

1. can i use a 1 5/8" post with a 1.2 m dish ?

2. will the SG9120B motor work with a geosat 1.2M Dish ?

1. You could do this but a pole of that diameter might have insufficient strength to maintain a perfect arc due to the extra weight of the dish. You may find yourself having to adjust the dish's elevation manually often if you desire a vast range of reception (Ku satellites run from 30W to 127W).

2. No. The SG9120B is designed for the 90cm Geosatpro dish with the clamping system. The SG9120 is the motor you want for the Geosatpro 1.2m. It comes with a larger diameter lipped tube which fits the dish and its U-Bolt system perfectly.

I would suspect you'll get a lot of pole flex with that 1.2M unless you use at least schedule 40 2" pipe , filled with concrete . 2" Galvanized electrical Rigid conduit would also be fine. When I had a 1.2M dish, even 2" EMT conduit seemed to flex too much. I doubt you'd be happy with 1 5/8" for long. :)

Shimming is an option, but not a good solution. Why not use the correct tool for the job? Flying a big sail will quickly break a weak link.

Agreed with Xizer and SatelliteAV... That dish (the 1.2 meter Geosat) fits like a glove on the proper motor, which is the SG-9120 (A), not the 9120B.

I would not mount a dish that large on a 9120B.

I got a question. Does the SG9120 have "stronger" guts in it as opposed to the SG9120B?

I think the only difference is that it has a 50mm tube. You can buy just the tube itself, but that goes for around $25, which is 1/2 or more the cost of an entire motor.

Yeah that is what I remembered, just wanted to make sure I remembered right.

The SG9120 and the SG9120b do not have interchangeable tubes, They attach differently. That is, I have one of each and they are different. The old SG2100 had a choice of tubes.

i went ahead and ordered the SG9120 form WSI and will keep the other motor for a smaller dish later as i didn't want to mess with trying to swap the motor tubes

If you are talking about this one then the listing is inaccurate:

I ordered one from LeoMall months ago and specifically told them (and even provided some pictures as proof) that this tube will not fit on the SG9120B. I had to return it to them for a refund and I see they still have not changed their description of the product. Idiots...

In these pics you can see there is a slight difference in the widths of the inside of the tube. The 50mm that Leomall sells is skinnier than the default tube on the SG9120B and as such will not fit on to the motor.

That is why I just ordered the correct motor from WSI and galaxy marketing

The 50mm tube from the "B" won't fit the "A" shaft.

Don't you mean the 50mm tube from the "A" wont fit the "B" shaft
Actually the 9120B has a 55mm tube rather than 50mm. the 9120(A) has a 40mm. WSI told me that the whole gear and shaft would need to be changed to allow the tube size to be changed either direction. The mount to the shaft is different between the 40mm and the 55mm.

You have this exactly backwards. I own a 9120b, and that's why I bought that model, for the 42mm tube. The 9120B has a 42mm tube, and the 9120 has a 55mm tube.

I think we can all agree that better names might be:
- 9120-40 & 9120-55
...or just...
- 9140 & 9155

Well, maybe next time. :)
