I just called Dish to change a programming package and the CSR asked me if I wanted to get a service contract on my dish equipment.... I told her.. I rent this equipment from you.. I dont own it... so if it breaks down, its your problem- not mine!

She said that was not true. She said my box has a 1 year warranty and if it dies after a year I have to pay to repair it. This CAN'T be true. If you rent a car from AVIS and the tranny falls out on the freeway- they don't make you pay for its repair!

The cable co does not make you pay to repair one of their rented digial cable boxes... so what is the deal? Paying a 150.00 "upgrade fee" for rented equpment was bad enough, is dish trying to scam their customers?

I can tell you- if my 622 dies after the year and they want to charge me for its repair- they can come pick it up!

....but if you lease a car and it breaks down out of warranty you pay for repairs.;)

CSR is right, but if you have trouble after the 1 yr warranty expires, just callup and sign up for the Dish maintenance program ( I forget the name) , get it fixed for a reasonable fee, then cancel the maintenance agreement afterwards.

Somebody help us out with the name of the program here.

It's called Dish Home Protection Plan. Problem, Sign up, Fix it. Cancel.
