I am bringing this question to the forum because I have gotten so many different answers from DirecTV about my question. I've done a few searches but couldn't find an answer in the forums already. So here goes.
My primary residence is in Atlanta, GA. I have a second home in Panama City Beach, Florida. In Atlanta, we have one HD receiver and second older non-HD receiver installed. I called DirecTV and asked whether we could have a dish installed in the FL house and just take a non-HD receiver back and forth. I further explained that we were only at one house at a time. I also said we needed to have a dish installed in FL. DirecTV OFFERED to come out and install the dish without opening a second account, at no-cost, which they have done. But when they installed te dish in FL, they also activated a new (third) receiver. Several weeks later, they figured out that we had a third receiver in Florida (which they already should have known about) and shut off all of our local channels. We were back in Atlanta and called to ask what was going on. They told us it was illegal to have receivers active in two areas. I asked why then did they do it when they knew were were keeping our system in Atlanta active. They had no answer, but said we had to shut the FL receiver down. So that is what we did - we de-activated the third Florida receiver.
So, what I would like to know is this - how do I take that second active receiver from GA and make it work with the dish in FL? (It's the same type of dish in both places.) Do I have to change my service address while we are here? That is not a problem, but we have gotten so much bad advice from DirecTV I am afraid to even call them about it.
Thanks in advance!
