I liked the movie. It was a nice solid movie. It was interesting, was told more from an adult level when they went into things like the finances of saving the farm and such, not to mention the breaking into the gentleman's club of horse racing.
It has a bit long of a build up, but it finishes well. I got a touch impatient at times with it, probably because I knew the ending. When you know the ending it is hard to put up with some of the drama along the way (i.e. betting the family farm on the horse). All in all, I would say it is better if you do not read up on Secretariat before seeing the film. At least have some of the things that happen surprise you.
All in all a good movie, that I think both adults and kids would like, but I think they will see two different movies.
