I have just recently noticed, maybe after the new update, that when I use the search on my Hopper 3, it will not bring up the show. But If I scroll in the menu and try to find it, its there, the search will not bring it up anymore...

No one at Dish cares about proper and efficient UI design. I liked that in the olden days pressing the search button brought up by default the current program. No more.
I liked that in the older days pressing DVR button multiple times would move between recorded programs, timers, and schedule. Now with the fancy shmancy tabbed UI everything takes so many more steps to achieve. Is this progress?

We've had plenty of glitches over the years. All the other providers also have! My real concern with DISH is that I have never seen one like this go on for so long! Usually in a couple of weeks they push an update that fixes it (but usually creates another one of another nature). This time I just don't see DISH taking any action. Just the repetitive comment "it's a known issue and being worked on".

press search, then 0, not that bad
press dvr, then skip forward, not that bad
it is different and takes some getting used to, but I think it is progress actually

This is what I tried earlier today:

Went to the list of scheduled recordings and positioned the cursor on "The Expanse".
Pressed the search button.
Nothing in the results is "The Expanse"
I needed to start typing T-H-E E-X-P and only then The Expanse showed up as one of the results. That's bad.

that sounds like the guide-related issues to me...
imo, nothing wrong with the UI and other stuff you mentioned

I agree, the search function is virtually useless now. Last night when I was checking my 100+ timers, I tried to use search to find the shows that were not recording. I wasted a lot of time trying to get my timers to work right.

Dish, this is totally unacceptable! Your software is without question the worst of any device that I have ever owned. I was a senior programmer/software engineer for over 30 years; if my group ever released software with the number of problems that yours has, I would have been fired a long time ago!!!

I have an external hard drive with a large number of movies I've recorded over the years. So large that I sometimes forget if certain movies have already been recorded or not. On my old HWS, I could do a search on a movie from the guide. And if I already had it recorded on my DVR or EHD it would show that. But my H3 does not show if it's already been recorded or not. That's a handy feature for me that needs to be brought back.

Prior to the Hopper we had a search function that you could select genre and many more option and get results that could be sorted by time or alphabetically. The new search feature is terrible compared to what we had. Where is that code and why cannot it replace the new one.

I'm hoarding that code on my 722. :D

If you are trying to access VOD content (like TV shows), then during this messed-up phase, we need to go via the VOD option in the menu and then hunt down the show (or movie) from there. The only way I can get my Star Wars Rebels in HD now is to go through the SLOW VOD menu and scrool SLOWLY to the XD service, and then scrool SLOWLY to SWR. Before I used to be able to just use SEARCH. Not anymore, for now, at least.

I do similar, on my H3, in the guide, I press info, then select showtimes if that option is available, if not, I press search, 0.
most of the time it will find it if I have already recorded it - the ones it doesn't find that I have recorded are due to the guide info changing...

something I find strange is that often, I will do a search on a program or movie that I see in the guide (I'm wondering if there are any other broadcasts of it coming up) and the search shows only one upcoming airing, either on a premium channel or maybe "on demand". The airing I'm looking at in the guide is not shown. Is that how it's supposed to work? Some programs have added a box for "showtimes" in the "Summary" tab. But it seems to be kind of "hit-and-miss".

Another thing I don't understand is that when searching for a movie, I often get a window showing "free" and "available on demand" with a "subscribe now" button. But - "subscribe" to WHAT?? I've tried following this button a few steps in, but it tells me absolutely nothing about what it is that I might be "subscribing" to. The original search info gives no hint as to what channel this might even be on??
