I've noticed lately that I'm picking up some channels/feeds in SD/1080i on my Coolsat 8000. Why would someone broadcast an SD channel in 1080i format? Is there some benefit over 480p?

usually those are in MPEG4....what channels in particular? I know some sports feeds have been in MPEG4 SD

If it's 1080i or 720p, then it is HD. I assume you are talking about SD video that is upconverted to HD for broadcast. Do you have any examples?

Not really. I just noticed that when watching channels like OETA, PBS East/West, etc... my Coolsat 8000 shows HD 1080i as the format. When I change to UWTV it shows SD 1080i

I'm showing 720 x 480i for those two. They are not HD. Looks like the Coolsat 8000 is confused?
