Totally different: Vooms firmware was a joint Voom/Ucentric effort, whereas DSR 500 and 530 are joint SC/Motorola efforts

Because Moto bought Ucentric and things merged and the 530 is a more recent box it seems that there would be things in common. You are a Voom user?

I think he was asking about the graphical interface, more than the technical aspects.

The SC/Motorola firmware is totally different from the UCentric offering. Actually the graphical interface on the SC 5XX receivers sits atop OpenTV architecture. What will happen with the SC Whole Home Server and the HD replacement for the 315 is unknown; but since Motorola has now bought UCentric, it makes sense for all new efforts to be with UCentric.
