The splitter will not "work for some time". It will work within its limits for however long it is there. Which means in this case, it will never work properly.
The water analogy is not good though, because if a power-passing splitter is used with only one leg connected, it will still work.
Also, it's not an SW44 that would be needed with the Dish 1000, it's a DPP44.
