The splitter will not "work for some time". It will work within its limits for however long it is there. Which means in this case, it will never work properly.

The water analogy is not good though, because if a power-passing splitter is used with only one leg connected, it will still work.

Also, it's not an SW44 that would be needed with the Dish 1000, it's a DPP44.

If he has a 34 switch he doesn't need anything else.

Just run 2 lines from the 34 switch to the 622 and 1 line to each 301.
