Here are some screen captures of the VOD system D* is finalizing for release. Since many don't know about the CE process, or were unable to access VOD via the CE test, I hope this helps.

This will also give you an idea of the content that is out there. Download speeds completely depend on your bandwith. I only have 1.5mb download from my ISP, so I let it go overnight.

If anyone wants other detail pics let me know and I'll try to get them.

Something unimpressive, take a look at number 3/4 in the last batch - VOD comes complete with advertising channels - AT&T :(

Took me a while to figure how to capture with my slingbox. I used a print screen caputre program, but it always gave me a black screen. After some reading on the sling community forum I foud a feature VMR that has to be turned off then it works great.

Thanks for the screen captures. One day maybe I'll be able to see them once D* fixes their **(^%$^&) backend system problems.

Thanks for the pics. Chomping at the bit to see it live, but this helps. I thought I saw there was a TBS VOD channel. Was that just an example of the channel schemes?

There was, but it wasn't available - and today it is gone. Earl said stuff would come and go during the test.

On right now:
Concert TV
TCM
NGC
Fuse
G4 (not available)
CNN Spanish ?? No english ??
Starz
Encore
and of course...AT&T

Great screen captures masterdeals. I can't wait for the 100 to be able to test this feature also.

I have been off the boards most of this summer, so I have not been at all informed of what is happening with VOD, so I have some questions that are going to sound very rookie.

What does this have to do with your ISP? Does D*'s upcoming VOD, not download with the dish?

Also, it appears that you need the HR20-700. Is this what is being installed currently when ordering a new HR20? (I have an install set up for this weekend, this is why I as).

And lastly, what is the CE program? I am assuming it is some sort of beta testing program that you had to be asked to be on.

Thanks! :)

The D* VOD system will push down some content via the dish for what D* thinks will be popular content but for most of the content they will download it in the background via your ISP connection.

Currently the HR20-700 is the only box that D* has release some software for that supports VOD. The HR20-100 will get it eventually but since the -700 has the larger installed base D* usually starts with that box first. And if you can believe some of the D* financial statements the R15 might even get it at some point.

At DBSTalk it's called CE, here it's called Living on the Edge. Basically D* opens up a window on some Friday and Saturday nights where if you force a download of software to a STB you can get early release versions of the software. You don't have to be asked to do it, just catch when the window is and download the software. They do ask that any and all problems/comments be posted so they can get feedback on how it's running.

How does this work? Is there a USB network card you can plug into the Reciever?

Thanks for all the info! :)

The HR20's have built in ethernet adapters on them. Up until now you could use it for the MediaShare function, which allowed you to view JPEG's and listen to MP3's from a PC on your home network. Now in addition it will be used for the VOD feature for downloading content that you select from the guide.

New channels up today:

TBS (not available)
TNT (good content)
CourtTV
Cartoon Network
Boomerand
Adult Swim (part of Cartoon net, but on a different VOD channel)

BTW, this post made within second of Satguys reaching the 1M post mark - one million!

Congrats to Scott, the staff, and everyone who makes this site great!

thanks for all the info!! i really want the HR20. if i get it will i get VOD? i read what you have said about CE and the living edge but im still confused! *feels dumb*

If you do nothing eventually all the HR20's will have the proper software level installed that has the VOD function in it, all you'll need to do is connect it to a broadband connection. The CE thing is only if you want to get early versions of HR20 software that would have the code in it before D* automatically pushes it out.
