My parents recently upgraded their old starchoice reciever and round dish to a new DSR505 and eliptical dish. My father installed the dish himself and it seems to be getting a fairly good signal, ie between 75 and 85 on all channels (in a mild snowstorm). Now here is the problem: About every 4-5 seconds (somewhat less frequently on non HD channels) the picture freezes for an instant, and then kind of artifacts back in, as in little squares form everywhere and the picture is brought back up to sync. The sound also delays during this process. This all happens in about 3/4 of a second, and then plays smoothly for another few seconds then repeats.

The other older Navigo box upstairs seems to work fine.

I believe they have had the DSR replaced, but the second one is exhibitng the same symptoms. This has been going on for about 3 weeks now.

Is there anything I can do to help you masterminds diagnose the problem?

Whats going on here?!?!

Thanks very much for your time guys!

Will.

welcome :wave

I would check the ebno number on some of the channels

options 6-0-5 right arrow to diagnostic C...theres a number in the righty that would be a + something
(+6.2 as an example)

anything above 5 is good, 7.5 is excellent

This problem happens on both HD and Non-HD channels?

I agree with Iceberg in that case, that its a cable or fitting problem.. perhaps using a long RG59 run or damaged cable (pinched, chaffed, or otherwise broken)

Did you have dual circular dishes? (one for F1 and one for F2) In that case, did you have a multiswitch? If so, is that multiswitch still connected?
