sat's 99 and 103 problems!!!

Hi, im at 29°N and 111°W, and Im using the Slimline with 5LNB's. I got good signals in 101, 110 and 119.

Im using the followings settings:
Satellite: DirecTV 5 LNB (99, 101, 103, 110, 119W)
Latitude: 29.0892°
Longitude: -111.0199°Elevation: 54.3°
Azimuth (true): 160.0°
Azimuth (magn.): 149.8°

I made some smalls adjustments and Im getting the max values, according the alignament procedure in installation manual.

But Im having the following problem, I dont get singals in all transpondersm this is the way im receiving:

Sat 99°

Transponders: 01-02-03-04-05-06-07-08
Signals: 00-00-50-50-00-00-50-50

Transponders: 09-10-11-12-13-14-15-16
Signals: 00-00-50-50-00-00-na-na

Sat 103°

Transponders: 01-02-03-04-05-06-07-08
Signals: 00-00-50-50-00-00-50-50

Transponders: 09-10-11-12-13-14-15-16
Signals: 00-00-50-50-00-00-na-na


In all the transponders im receiving signals I can watch HD channels with no problem,


Any Idea, Do I need a big dish ? if so, is this big dish Exist ? can I use multiples dishes ? cause I own 5 90cm dishes.

check usahd 242 and the weather channel 362, are they coming in? and im assuming your 00 is just a 0, sounds like your dish needs to be peaked. your physical dish is fine for your programming though.

Yes, they're 0 not 00, I write them that way just for space.

Im not able to watch 242 cause it is in transponder 13 and Im able to watch twc casue it is in transponder 7

Bad LNBs again? Take off the B-Band converter if you are using them and see if that jumps these reading. If so, have the LNBs replaced. In my case I had the 5 replaced with a 3 and all is well. Good Luck.

so your readings are 0 0 50 50 0 0 50 50 ? as in xx oo xx oo xx, thats a bad lnb.

just to add on to my previous post, both of those xpndrs are odd, so its not a short in the line. pretty sure its your lnb.

mmm, let me guess, trasnponders 3,4,7,8,11 and 12 are odd polarity ??

in those trasponders I got signal.

When I taked off I only got 0´s in all transponders in 99 and 103 sats and no HD channels, only 70´s HD channels the ones in 110 and 119 sats

I have the low signal strength in the odd transponders, also. I posted about it here:

When I remove the BBC yhe signal is stronger, however, then there's no HD reception. I had D* send me a new BBC, which did nothing. It's always worse on the coldest days. A poster suggested directly to me that it's likely the WNC 5LNB. So I'll be calling D* to have it replaced in about a week.

Yes, it is, and im sure becasue I got very good signal in 119, but my question is, trasponders 1,2,5,6,9,10,13 and 14 are odd polarity ? I was thinking
1 odd
2 even
3 odd
4 even
etc etc.......

It could also be the receiver, I've went through an H20 and H21 in 9 months for issues that only effected the hd side of the receiver and I had issues with 99 and 103 on both.

My personal feeling, when there is that many things that could be wrong - LNB, Receiver, even wiring, you may be best to pony up for the service call and get it fixed all at once. If it is the LNB or receiver, you won't have to pay anything past the $79 service call.

If you're wanting to replace stuff yourself, I'd personally start with the LNB.

Skysurfer2K,

Given your location near Hermosillo, MX you are outside of the designed reception area. Your alignment is absolutely critical since you are on the fringe - and even small alignment errors will magnify your inability to get acceptable reception.

If you do not have an HD box, just peak to 101 and select something other than slimline on your setup menu. If you do have an HD box, I'd suggest starting your alignment over: nail the az&el on 101, adjust tilt only to peak 119, then fine tune on 101 to the middle of the peak drop off.

A larger dish would probably increase your reception results, but you would need to modify it to accomodate the slimline LNB and make sure that you had enough surface area and curvature to pick up the 5 sats.

I'd go with making sure the alignment was dead on before even considering anything else.
