With 2010 coming to a close I thought it would be fun to pick the Best of 2010.
So here we go, my picks for SatelliteGuys The Best of 2010!
Best Satellite Product - DISH Network / Sling Media - DISH Network Sling Adapter - DISH Network gave new meaning to TV Everywhere by releasing a easy to install device that lets you watch and control your 722 or 722k anywhere over the internet. While not perfect the product really delivers on the TV Everywhere promise for the first time.
Best Satellite Technology Improvement - DIRECTV - Multi Room Viewing - While in beta testing for some time, DIRECTV officially rolled out its Multi Room Viewing software to it's DVR's this year. DIRECTV's MRV is worlds ahead of anything DISH Network offers and allows you to watch recordings from your DVR on any other MRV enabled receiver in your house. DISH should take a good hard look at what DIRECTV has done with MRV and introduce its own version of MRV pronto.
Best New Satellite Channel - DIRECTV - N3D - 2010 was the start of the 3D craze and taking lead of the 3d revolution was DIRECTV in partnership with Panasonic who launched America's first 24 hour 3D channel, N3D. N3D is more then a 3D Demo channel, N3D offers quality 3D programming and even introduced some popular shows to the world of 3D in 2010. The quality of the majority of the shows and specials on 3D are first class. With exclusive 3D concerts to special events such as The Harlem Globetrotters N3D has been there to help usher in the world of 3D.
Best New Channel - EPIX - Its not every day a new movie channel launches and in 2010 we saw the launch of EPIX. In fact over the year we saw 3 seperate EPIX channels launched. EPIX features the best blockbuster movies from MGM, Lionsgate and Viacom. EPIX was also the first movie channel to offer all its movies online on demand. For many DISH Network customers the $10 a month HD Platinum worth it just for the EPIX channels alone!
Best New Free To Air Satellite Channel - MeTV from Weigel Broadcasting - MeTV started off as a digital sub-channel in Chicago has now blossomed into a national network offering the best classic television programming. MeTV has been uplinked on C Band in the clear for SatelliteGuys around the country to enjoy. Hats off to Weigel Broadcasting for making one of the most fun and exciting new channel we Free To Air fans have found in a long long time!
Most Improved Website - DISH Network - DISHonline.COM - For years DISHonline.COM has been a wasteland of information on VOD and Pay Per View, but in 2010 it was transformed into your one stop DISH Network entertainment portal. At DISHonline you can watch your favorite shows on demand from many networks, plus you can also watch your Sling enable devices right at the DISHonline.COM portal. No the site is not perfect, but in 2011... you have come a long way baby!
Best Internet Streamer - Roku - Roku XDS - The Roku Box has been considered one of the best internet media streamers for many years now, and the best got even better this year with the Roku XDS which adds the ability to watch streams at up to a full 1080p and also Wireless N streaming. All Roku boxes felt the love in 2010 with the addition of new services such as Hulu Plus and the NHL. While new boxes such as the Boxee Box and GoogleTV were released this year none of them matched the ease of use and quality of any of the Roku Products. In addition to the wide number of services available Roku also has a wide selection of Private Channels which Roku owners can access and enjoy. Roku is also still the best Netflix streamer on the market today.
Best Save of the Year - C Band Lives! While today's MediaBiz's Morning Bridge declared C Band Dead, SatelliteGuys members working together were able to help rescue the subscription C Band Satellite market with a lot of help and brain power of Michael Kohl of Skyvision. Working together they were able to find a way to transform old 4DTV receivers into workable receivers which can subscribe to new c band services provided by Skyvision and Satellite Receivers Limited (SRL)
Best Members - SatelliteGuys.US - You Guys! Here at SatelliteGuys we always reinvest in our site, unlike other sites the money our members donate does not go into the owners pockets, instead the money goes back into the site and when we have the ability to we like to give back where we can. This year was an amazing year for us and we were able to give back BIG TIME this year. Thanks to the support of many of our members we were able to raise $3,000 for the kids with cancer at St. Jude Children's Hospital!
In addition we had one amazing Christmas Party this year giving our members thousands of dollars of amazing prizes. No other site gives back to our member the way SatelliteGuys does!
Before I close 2010 I want to take a moment to remember our fallen members who passed away this year, including "Sat City" who was our Arcades biggest fan... upon his passing we renamed our arcade the Sat City Arcade in memory of him, also in 2010 we lost the godfather of the uplink reports JohnH. JohnH (John Hotsenpiller) helped SatellieGuys to write our automated DISH Network Uplink Center software. John first started posting uplink data way back in the DBSDISH.COM days. To our fallen members we stop and remember and thank them for being SatelliteGuys!
Thank you for all our success in 2010! 2011 is going to kick off in a big way as we go into the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show! Our coverage begins on Thursday Afternoon here at SatelliteGuys!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
