Sammy upconverter vs. HD-DVD, which is better?

Ok, I have a Samsung DVD-HD931 that can upconvert to 720p and 1080i. My TV is a Samsung HLN5065WX/XAA. (1280 x 720). Watching DVDs look great.

From all the information overload that I've been trying to sort through am I correct to say that no matter how good an 'upconverter DVD' player I have it won't look as good as an HD-DVD player, specifically the HD-A1?

Im a true HD fan but won't be able to upgrade my TV to 1920 x 1080 anytime soon. My question is what would you do; get the HD-A1 DVD player or just continue using the Sammy 931?
